A LEFTIE commentator was labelled a “nasty bully” during a car crash interview after calls for Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square to be torn down.

Columnist Afua Hirsch, who in an opinion piece on the Guardian website highlighted Nelson when discussing the 700-odd confederate statues pulled down in the United States, was shut down for criticising the major British historical figure.
Violent protests broke out in Charlottelsville, Virginia last week in an angry dispute over the removal of a statue of confederate figure General Lee.
Appearing on Channel 4 News, Laura Perrins, co-editor of political website The Conservative Woman, criticised Ms Hirsch for attacking the role of a “national hero”.
Ms Perrins also accused the columnist of now trying to change the debate .
She said: “You’re shifting the debate here. Now you’re saying we want to discuss it. Previously you’d said you wanted to tear down the statue of a national hero who gave his life for this country.
“Lord Nelson was critical in bringing about an end to the slave trade. The Battle of Trafalgar was won in 1805 which meant that Britain controlled the high seas.
“Then when Wilberforce passed the international Slave Trade Act two years later, 1807, Britain was able to control the seas and actually enforce that Act against all other colonial slave trades.
“If it wasn’t for British control of the high seas, the international slave trade may well have continued.

my take ?
a moronic idea that our Greatest Naval hero should be removed from the Square .

I watched it and the segment as with the premise was laughable. Just like the Muslim so called Channel 4 presenter seated between both women was equally pointless , useless and left wing.
Not that the right wing are any better. With the biased likes of Adam Boulton and Nick Ferrari to name but a couple of turds , who aren't even worth mulching for the soil.

Cyclist Charlie Alliston was cleared at the Old Bailey of manslaughter after ploughing into mother-of-two Kim Briggs - but he was convicted of "wanton and furious driving" following what's considered a ground-breaking trial.

I'm not anti-cycling, but it's moronic arrogant louts like Alliston who have no regard for safety or the law that need to be made an example of and I'm very sorry he's not looking forward to being banged up for 10 years.

Deaths caused by cyclists (apart from their own) are very rare hence the absence of legislation on it. There probably dozens of young drivers being convicted of causing death on by dangerous driving this week, so much that they only bother reporting them on local news.

A better way of preventing such 'accidents' would be banning the general sale (and use) of bikes with no brakes to the public. I've never known of an idiot riding a velodrome bike on the road before but the more common danger is brakeless BMX/stunt bikes ridden often on the pavement. I've seen some youngsters pulling ridiculous manoeuvres when trying to stop at the bottom of hills on these things. Many of these guys are under 18 so couldn't be sent to prison anyway, so harsher sentencing would be no real deterrent to them.

How did they arrive at that verdict? No brakes, riding like a moron and he killed a woman so how was he not guilty of mans-slaughter

A 96-year-old World War II veteran hailed as an American D-Day war hero after surviving a fierce battle against the Germans on the cliffs of Normandy has admitted he was actually in northern Ireland at the time, according to a French nonprofit organization.

George G. Klein was treated as “one of the great celebrities” during the 73rd anniversary of the Normandy battle during a ceremony there last month, where he was honored as one of the 90 surviving members of the elite 2nd Ranger Battalion that battled the Germans on the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc on June 6, 1944.

Probably not.
But some cyclists remove them. It's more "fun and creative".

I knew a guy who drove with his unicycle on the barrier of suspension bridges.

That's madness...

I once have seen one newsstory on national TV about a cyclist courrier delivery guy that had removed his brakes. While i got his point in a way (fastest delivery!), i also thought it was incredibly stupid and irresponsible.

I have ridden a pushbike with no brakes. But the reasons were:
  1. I was about ten.
  2. Even as ten year olds go, I was thick.

I used to stop by deliberately crashing into things. It worked, but was not exactly economical. Also, my parents used to administer corporal punishment and lock me in my room and try to find where I was keeping the bike so they could scrap it. Each of them was convinced that I took after the other half of the family.
