I did say 'often have no British players on the field'.

Believe it or not I actually had to read tablers post first as it was after mine before arriving at your post.....which lo and behold referred me back to tablers post. I took your advice and went back to tablers post to see if I had missed something. What a relief it was to get back there and find that I collected all the information first time around. But thanks for making me double check.

I live close to Newcastle and Sunderland, and I seem to like them both about the same. If I mention this to local people their reaction is not good - they invariably suggest I have weakness of character or even that I am cowardly! Thus I don't mention it much. However for 40 years I have felt this way and it's not going to change now.
Does anyone else in the derby zones feel the same, ie. someone in Manchester liking both City and Utd |

I live in Adelaide where there are 2 teams in the AFL. I like to see them both do well as I like Adelaide as a whole and like to see them beat teams from other states.

Eely I have just laughed like a drain at your post (86), its like straight out of Viz Letterbocks.
Although I'm Black and White through and through and try and get to every home game, I also follow Hartlepool and Darlington.

Damn good day at the office for LUFC
Quote:
Ankergren sowed the seed for the ultimate thwarting on Spurs on the night. Spurs dominated the first half but after 20 minutes Leeds started to ask unpleasant and difficult questions of their own and it became open football. In the second half, both sides looked tired, but Leeds are much more at home with scrappy, combative football than Premiership glamourboys Spurs. The first Leeds equaliser was typical goalmouth pinball, Beckford showing his gutterfighter's instinct for knowing exactly where to be in order to open the tin of Spurs' highly competent defence. After that, there was a delightful passage of play. The passing of Spurs was slick, yet you could sense their anxiety because there was always a Leeds player in the way when they tried to close in for the kill. Leeds counterattacked with real conviction and looked like they thought they might win. Their football was more basic, with lots and lots of route one, but the accuracy and timing of their long ball was very good, no easy matter even for a Premiership defence to cope with. Gomez kept well. When Spurs finally combined a three pronged attack, Ankergren and the Leeds defence were well beaten and I thought that was that. But nobody told the Leeds players, who responded by showing the spirit which defeated Man United. Their final attacks were frantic, but they didn't give in and in the end, Beckford's persistent and predatory runs into Spurs' goalmouth forced the fatal foul from Dawson (who up to then had been really good), deep into injury time. The contrast of Beckford's penalty with Jermaine Defoe's early penalty attempt was interesting. Defoe went for accuracy and finesse but Ankergren read it superbly and showed real athleticism to save the shot. Beckford picked out the top right hand corner and drilled it home clinically, giving Gomez no chance at all. It was a textbook demonstration of how to take a penalty under pressure, and Beckford was under one hell of a lot of pressure. He never even looked like he might miss. Epilogue As you may imagine, I have been discussing the game at White Hart Lane with several of my friends (yes, I have friends...).and Ing has minutely picked out the one ghost at the feast. There are no rich clubs with impressive reserve squads in League One, for if they had such resources they wouldn't be in third tier football anyway. When Leeds defeated Manchester United there followed two league games in a week: a hard fought draw against Brentford, who are not a high flying side, and a 2-0 defeat from Exeter, who frankly are struggling. Exeter played their socks off for their home support and deserved to win. But they knew, and Brentford knew, that the Leeds players had put in really hard miles against one of (if not the) best sides in England and had to be feeling the after effects. Grayson couldn't ring enormous changes because he hasn't got that sort of squad. Exeter and Brentford realised that Leeds were potentially vulnerable and threw the kitchen sink at them. It paid off. On Tuesday, Leed play Swindon away. On Saturday, they are at home to Colchester. Both Swindon and Colchester are currently in play off places: they aren't rubbish. Next Tuesday, its the FA Cup replay. These are the times which try mens' souls...
