Today would have been Benny's 87th birthday. The reruns and DVDs of his show are still making people laugh all over the world (which would have pleased him greatly) and I like to think he's still making people laugh, on the other side.

I got an email from Sue earlier today!

Re Benny's birthday, she says, "Always on this day, we would be rehearsing for a show and going out to a restaurant, so I toast Benny now, as I'm writing to you, with a cup of tea. Oh! to the lovely memories."

Benny's uncle died in a high wire accident,
I also read that the most TV shows Benny did in
a year was .... 5 !

An American Benny Hill would probably have cranked out
1 show a week.... at least !
(but then, the Yanks have a different work ethic )

On his travels on the continent he visited the Swiss home of
Charlie Chaplin ( long gone by then ) Benny was chuffed to see a shelf
full of Benny Hill videos in Charlie's study !

You'd have appreciated her appearance in the Aussie soap, "The Box" (a competitor of 'Number 96'), as Ken James' character's girlfriend. She stripped down to lacy black bra and panties; one of her most memorable lines was, "oh, how I hate wearing bra's". Never got 'em out for the lads on that series either.
