A Cloudy Future
Who trusts and uses clouds to store files or whatever you have
I hate that it's being pushed big time by all in IT. I've just disabled as much as I could, I just don't trust any of it

Not me.
I don't want anyone to know what I have. How do I know the people that run the cloud, like Apple or Google, are not giving free access to the government without a warrant? Considering what's been going on lately like with Facebook, I don't trust any of these tech companies to keep my data and files secret from prying eyes. Also don't forget how easy it was for someone to hack the Apple iCloud files of many actresses and post their most intimate photos and videos online for anyone to see: remember the Fappening? |

Now as much as I truly rate the new all bells and whistles updated 2019 version. No thanks. Instead (Like an old timey twat ) transfer anything I want to keep onto discs , memory sticks and or email addresses. Intend to get a desktop (Which is why still using the loyal Samsung R780) when can afford to buy one (Nope can't afford a Mac , so don't even ask Mate ) outright. Also when decided what one to get. Since the Samsung brand has never let me down (Touch non-Jinx wood) did want to get a desktop from them. Only the buggers only have the one Plus it`s screen is only a couple inches larger than this laptops Already bought a desktop storage with integrated USB Hub. Once get the machine will shift anything sensitive onto that. Yes including the photo of you at a Golf Course in daringly high cut shorts, flashing those arousing manly hairy knees

I would not trust ANY third-party storage. If I have anything important to store I copy it to either backup hard drives or CD/DVD, or both.

That's what started this, today we took our old iMac to a pawn shop to see what we could get for it, they offered more than I thought we'd get for it so decided to sell it, but when selling it I had to hand over admin rights, sign out of iCloud that I hadn't even realised I was still signed into .. turned into a minor nightmare so in the end kept the Mac I just kept thinking Big Brother ... not the reality show That's for idiots But I kept wondering why would they offer free storage if there's not something more in it for them other than a selling point for a product, can't be just that.

Never, ever trust the cloud with anything important. Back it all up onto something physical - twice.
Remote storage is all the big hustle nowadays, but it's only of indirect benefit to the consumer, if you are really pressed for storage space. And you can expect to be data-mined at best, hacked and deleted at worst. I remember years and years ago before the cloud was even a big thing, a certain gamers forum abruptly disappeared off the web, and some guy popped up on another related forum whining that all of his fan fiction for the game had disappeared into the ether. Turns out he was using his forum posts as his personal data repository, and never bothered to copy/paste them into local files. I didn't type it out loud, but my thoughts were, "You fool! What the hell were you thinking?" Back it up.

So if you use a cloud storage and fail to pay your storage fee's . Will they sell your data like they do at a regular storage facility ?

I actually didn't pay for mine, you get it with Apple products for free, not sure how much space you get, all I had one there was music I purchased from iTunes, can't even remember dropping them in the cloud

I have an iPhone and I have iCloud and Backup turned off.
So I have a total of 5GB of free space on iCloud and photos, mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, messages, Safari, Wallet, Siri and Apps are all supposed to be backed up automatically to iCloud. I have everything turned off except APPS. The last time I did a backup to iCloud was over 3 months ago. I don't download new APPS every months so there is nothing to back up to iCloud. The photos on my physical iPhone are not anywhere else. Out of the total of 5GB of free space I have on iCloud, I have only used about 500 MB of it. If you log into my iCloud account on the Apple website and click the different categories: photos, contacts, etc etc, they will all show empty. Only reason I do backup APPS to iCloud is so if I replace the iPhone or get another Apple device and use the same Apple account, it will automatically know which APPS to download and place on the new Apple device. Oh and yes, I also have SYNC turned off on my iPhone so anything I put on there, it will not automaticall go to any other Apple devices owned by others in my contacts like friends, family, wife. Plus if you still need convincing about not putting anything on the Cloud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJTct8eHKYE |
