Bishop O'Neill: So Father, do you ever have any doubts? Is your faith ever tested? Any trouble you've been having with beliefs or anything like that? Father Dougal: Well you know the way God made us, and he's looking down at us from heaven? Bishop O'Neill: Yeah... Father Dougal: And then his son came down and saved everyone and all that? Bishop O'Neill: Uh huh... Father Dougal: And when we die, we're all going to go to heaven? Bishop O'Neill: Yes. What about it? Father Dougal: Well that's the part I have trouble with! Father Dougal: (to Bishop O'Neill) So, if God has existed forever...you know, what did he do in his spare time, like, before he made the Earth and everything? |

The Church has never encouraged anyone to think too closely about Christianity,The more You do the less sense it all makes.

Not true, at least for me VP. I engaged for many posts in the atheist thread. IMO it is fruitless to discuss it using just text posts.. Those that believe will still believe and those that don't will not change their views. No one's beliefs will be changed by text posts. |

Doesn't stop people giving their opinions. I don't expect to 'convert' anyone but I would be very grateful if you or any other Christian would answer my previous unanswered question. If Jesus had just died on the cross and hadn't come back from the dead or gone to heaven would you still be a 'Christian'? (This is purely hypothetical of course) Would you still be a follower and worshipper? |

Even hypothetically your question is one I can not answer myself. Of course it that would have changed the whole ethos of the religion. However since I grew up with the existing ethos I can't say how or if I would still believe or not. |

I'm afraid of nothing but my faith is a personal thing. There are people on here say so what as long as it doesn't impinge on me and as far as my faith goes I don't want to impinge it on anyone.
As to your question about if the resurrection hadn't happened would I still be a Christian I don't know. If I were born in Thailand would I be a buddist. |

But you can be a Buddhist without any belief in the supernatural. The importance with Buddhism is the way you live your life in the present. Christianity excludes anyone that does not subscribe to their many and various supernatural tenets. What's more important to you, the way you conduct your life or your belief in the supernatural? |

IMO one's belief/faith is an integral part of how you lead your life. There are many atheists who lead exemplary lives and do a ton of great works or charity work. The same is true for many "Christian's". There are also those from both "sides" that do terrible things. When it comes to push and shove it all boils down to the individual's personal integrity I do believe. |
