Default lumfile

I'll take slow over maybe available

Not that long ago rapidshare was crawling along at 30KB
- how quickly people forget

Calling for a ban of a host has always has been pointless unless theres widespead
(as in the majority)issues that many members are bringing up.

Currently testing Lumfile with this post

http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=28480

As registered user 300mb first part of 682mb @ 70KB download which is static

30 second count down captcha - easy

2nd 300mb part 45 second countdown - downloading @ 70Kb

3rd file 80mb - 40 minute wait - waiting period is fluid not 1 hour static as per FAQ
45 second count down - easy catcha - downloading @70KB

FAQ says

Anonym zu lumfile.com/faq.html
Speed free download ?

100Kb/s

Waiting time twice download ?

1 hour

Can I hotlink the stuff I upload?

No. Hotlinking is not allowed on any kind of files uploaded to our servers.

The wjunction thread for lumfile shows all too clearly posting to earn is a lottery

Heres an example of either fudged figures or a steep decline in sales
Seen enough evidence across many cash hosts to know fudged figures is a good bet.

You can try test any of my post links, and i hope you will get better free user speed ( depend on your connection ) but you will get better free download speed, i have asked some friends to test some links that not using this setting and my links that applied that setting.

How can this happened...? I set my account using their new feature :

Quote:
Additional new features for lumfile:
Additional limit the number of files allowed free acc download per day, per IP. For example: when the user set the value for textbox is 3 mean allows the number of downloads per IP is 3 files per day, the maximum allowable speed is 300kb/s, faster than the default is 100K/s
With free user waiting times between download 1 hour ( 45 minutes if you register as free ), i set my limit into 24 ( I think fair enough ).

So, it's depend on poster, i choose to set using that feature, if i can get lot download numbers, i can use points i earned for extend my account.

And for file hosting please consider this too, there's some factor that will affect free user, like geographical, potential country sales zone ( if your country not in their high sales zone, free user will get lowest slot, priority goes to high sales zone, it's their marketing strategy ), etc...etc. As free user I always have problem with ex ta bit, rapidgator and uploaded, but well...as free user i can't demand a lot.

Default File factory - fair use policy

Premium costs £8 a month so not overly expensive, premium give the same benefits as any other premium host account. Unlimited storage, downloads etc.. the maximum upload size is 2000mb but that's a bit pointless because free users can only download files of a maximum size of 500mb.
Uploading is done through the browser and I found it a little slow but I suppose it depends on the speed of internet connection.

In my account settings there are three optional download settings ( all credit to Watashi for this)

1) Direct Downloads
When enabled, downloads of all FileFactory files start automatically.

2) FileFactory TrafficShare
When enabled, your users can download your files without waiting and without ads. Once you exceed your monthly allowance, your downloads revert to the free download system.

3) FileFactory Digital Sales
When enabled, you restrict your files to be downloaded only by other FileFactory Premium members. You then earn a commission on all sales generated from your account.

Direct Downloads does as it says, all downloads start immediately without visiting the captcha screen or waiting for a countdown.

TrafficShare removes all the ads and allows faster downloads. 100gb/month is included free with the premium account after 100gb has been downloaded it then disables TrafficShare for the rest of that month. Extra subscriptions can be purchased if you want to allow more than 100gb but a waste of money IMO.

FileFactory Digital Sales is for people who want to earn and because it puts all your downloads to premium members only is not allowed here.

I would recommend making those first two changes,

I uploaded a couple of magazines last night download them if you want to see how it all works.

Was just reading through their policies - help / information /fair use policy

It couldnt be more vague if it tried but theres an implied threat if your bandwidth usage goes beyond what ever they deem average use they will expect you to reduce it

Wether they actually enforce it and what level of membership it relates to is anyones guess

Fair Use Policy

Effective Date: December 1, 2011
Introduction

At FileFactory.com we are committed to providing you with the best quality of service. To do this, we have to monitor our servers for the average amount of storage and bandwidth used per subscriber. Although we do not set fixed limits on storage or bandwidth, we might intervene in the spirit of "fair usage" if we see a customer dramatically exceed the storage amounts of an average FileFactory customer.
How do we apply these rules?

Our operations team continuously monitors your storage and bandwidth to identify heavy usage. If we find that you have gone way beyond what we consider average use, we will communicate this with you. Depending on the impact your usage has on the service and performance on our other customers, we might apply technical limits or techniques to reduce the impact of this kind of heavy usage.
What happens when I am affected by the Fair Usage Policy?

If your usage is considered to be above average, we will contact you by email and inform you that your FileFactory storage or bandwidth is excessive and is affecting other customers. We will try to work with you in reducing your usage. But, if your usage remains excessive, we reserve the right to reduce your ability store or download files, meaning you will no longer be able to add or download files, until you reduce your usage.

I have tried to create an account with them - but was informed that a verification code is required. I don't know where to find any further information about this procedure. There are no links on their site to state or to give information about the next stage.

If i were to guess I'd say your using script blocker like no script which is stopping
the full captcha from displaying - i've had similar things on several different filehosts occur

verification required but no box to enter your answer into until you allow the site and the captcha part which can come under several names

- captcha
- recaptcha.net
- solve media

A right click on the page and allowing the names filefactory & captcha term (usually located under the websites name towards the top of the list)
or temporary allow all the page down the bottom, refresh the page should solve it.

Sometimes you will need to disable the script blocker before entering a filehost.
Several have captchas that even after allowing all the site will need to be re-allowed a 2nd time.

The original sign-up screen should look like this

If I highlight a mediafire link in firefox and "open link in a new tab", it shows up an invalid link(file deleted for terms of service reason).

However, if you copy the link and make your own tab and paste the link, the link is okay!

It looks to me as though "open link in a new tab" leaves some trace of the planetsuzy forum, and mediafire will just give you that invalid link message.

I experimented with that "open link in a new tab" from google cache, and the links were fine.

I couldn't figure out the difference in the links between the cache and the PS forum, when I realized the links themselves were no different.

The difference is the original source of the link."

Recently tested a mediafire link posted in the last week and got this message

Archive Download Blocked

The file you attempted to download is an archive that is damaged or possibly encrypted. MediaFire does not support unlimited downloads of broken or encrypted archives and the limit for this file has been reached. This file may only be distributed from a premium account.

We have informed the owner that sharing of this file has been limited and how they can resolve this issue.

I assumed it was dead but tried the

Open new tab - right clicking link - copy link location - open new tab - left click into address bar - enter

It worked

Never assume dead is dead with this crowd

Default Captchas

This little tip was posted on another forum awhile back

Of the 2 things presented below you only need solve the letter puzzle on the left

The kerbside numbering which is obscured every now and then doesnt even need to be input.I got this word wrong and another was offered which i got right.

I didnt even enter the number

If you get the letters wrong, which I do 2/3 times in every 10 because their ambiguous
a new one appears

I've only come across one filehost which didnt offer a new puzzle in response to an incorrect guess.

I've had that too. After making one mistake the host said something like "You have exhausted your captchas for today. Try again tomorrow"

I use a lot of filehosts, but am fairly sure it was uplo@ded.net. You need a lot of patience downloading from them, unless it's a location thing, as you've mentioned in previous posts

I knew the filehost was upload something but given the number of hosts uploaded / uploading net / to with that name and different endings couldnt quite recall with any precision which would have made the comment pointless.

Default File Retention periods

This is always a key component for anyone uploading

Premium users dont need to think about it unless the host they choose gets into difficulties
ie losing their credit card facility - then its open season on the least active content

Sometimes it pays to keep your files active even if you have to download them yourself

For anonymous users / guests
or free registered users it can make a lot of difference to the amount of time required for re-upping.

30 days seems to be the standard

So no activity for that file and potentially it will be deleted

The best & worst i've come across per their FAQs

1Fichier (french free host no premium option)

- 30 days from last download for free registered user
- 15 days for visitor

https://1fichier.com/tarifs.html

Depositfiles (cash host )
- offers free upgrades - reward scheme killed for free users in 2014 - 11.2.15

- 90 days for a free registered user - up to 10GB per file - download limit 5GB per day
- 30 days for guests - up to 300mb

Some curious comments about closed accounts seem to imply files are still active afterwards
Whether this is referring to premium or free accounts is never mentioned

File factory (free to premium host)

- 90 days for a free registered user - up to 5GB
- looks like you cant upload with them anonymously

Comparison chart
https://www.filefactory.com/services/premium/

Content held for ever - DMCA notice take downs aside

Mediafire

- long as the account is signed into regularly - once every 3 months
everything stays - up to 200mb per file
