Thanks everyone for all of your very thoughtful responses, and for providing possible solutions for my pop-up/pop-under problems. It looks like I've got a bit of homework to do before I'll be able to fully resolve them.

Noscript will do the trick but as your using ad block plus i probably wouldnt as those have a history of being bitter rivals
the simplest way to stop the adds,pop ups at the start is to log in once,tick remember details and when finished close the tab but DO NOT LOG OUT Works for me |

To prevent the livejasmin popunder from opening, this is what you do:
Using Notepad, open your HOSTS file. In XP, you will find this file in C:\WINDOWS\I386. Add this line: 10.0.0.88 livejasmin.com Save the file. No more livejasmin. EDIT: Only worked temporarily, more research required. Last edited by DieFledermaus; September 24th, 2009 at 05:25 PM.. |

I use vista home premium and run IE8. And it's crap. But when I log in, I get the live jasmin as well, but all I do is click the x in the top right hand corner and it disappears, I can then log in as normal. It is a bit of a bind but I don't mind it as long as it only appears outside the site and not when you are in it.
As for watching it, you get a freeview, for a few minutes and then it blanks out. If you were to close it down and leave the site, then return, you should not get a new pop up as the old one is still there. But the most annoying one is this streammate which I find at imagevenue and other picture hosts. At one time it was, 'Continue to your image,' with a countdown. But you always saw the advert first before you were allowed to move on. Again I just click the x in the top right hand corner. It seems as everything is becoming more expensive these days, the only way to pay for it is through adverts whether we like it or not. I think it is a necessary evil and unfortunately, we have to put up with these things.

If you are using XP then you might try;
> Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Privacy > Turn-on Pop-Up Blocker |

Why do you have to logon to VEF everytime? Just don't log off. Close the tab, close the browser and remain logged in. Seems to work for me since I've never seen this Livejasmin.

My computer provides 2 ways of translating host names to IP addresses or
IP addresses to host names: * The /etc/hosts file, a simple ASCII file that is searched sequentially. This method was good enough until the mid 80:ie's, when the number of hosts that wanted to connect had grown. * BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Domain), which is Berkeley's implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS). Microsoft, MAC and UNIX-clones, all can use the hosts file. The Microsoft user might find the file at this location. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\etc\HOSTS However, Microsoft have released many different operating systems during the years, so a search might be necessary. To edit the hosts file use a simple text editor and not some fancy pants, since they add formating code to the file. The syntax of the hosts file is; IP-number Hostname Alias(es) Example of one entry: 157.166.226.26 www.cnn.com c There are 3 entries, separated by space, on one line. First the IP-number '157.166.226.26' and then the hostname mapped to it 'www.cnn.com' and lastly the alias 'c' associated with the hostname. The aliases are not necessary and is sometimes referred to as a geek-bookmark, because when you type 'c' in your browsers address window, it will take you to www.cnn.com. In what order does the computer do hostname resolution? The hosts file or the DNS. This depends on your Operating System. If your using Microsoft it looks like it checks the hosts file first: Quote:

hosts to visit. Today it's the opposite, it's used as a list of sites not to visit. It works by resolving the unwanted sites name with the loopback interface IP, which is '127.0.0.1'. Quote:

inside your network. Some suggests that instead of 127.0.0.1 one should use 255.255.255.0 Quote:

Found out that the answer was in my cookie settings. I have set Firefox to accept cookies from VEF and not delete them when shutting down. This way I stay logged in and don't get the pop-unders.
