For Rar-files I use RAR-Expander-version 0.8.4 It`s freeware, works nice,much better than StuffIt- expander.
For Grabbing bigger webgalleries I use Gallery Grabber 022.2, It`s shareware but very useful. I downloaded those from Versiontracker.com Real problem is that I haven`t find any imagehost-grabber that works for Safari, which I prefer, because It`s a bit faster than Firefox. Any ideas? EDIT: Almost forgot! One of my most used and important application is re-naming-tool called File Sequencer 1.0. It`s very easy to use and free. I rename all files before burning to CD-r, so if I make collections there`s no problem of having 4 "8.jpg"`s and 13 "1.jpeg"´s and of course 5 "DSCN-0001"`s and 24 "IMG-1"`s ! More programmes for Mac OSX
I have had a few problems with UnRarX and recommend MacPAR deLuxe as an alternative - available from Versiontracker.com. (http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/MacPAR_deLuxe/index.html)
This application was written more or less in conjunction with Split&Concat (which is wonderful and should be tool-of-choice for re-combining files where the uploader has specified BJSplit) and it hasn't let me down yet. It may be far more clever than we will ever need but at the same time it is easy to use. Simply select 'Process' from the Toolbar and it will lead you through the next steps. Be warned though - after processing the files this application dumps them in the bin so if you wish to keep them for some further purpose (e.g. re-posting them on this forum) you will need to make a copy before unrarring or retrieve them from the bin afterwards. They will be undamaged. For a good download manager try iGetter from here - http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...s/igetter.html I have not tried VLC Player but will now that I know about it. A great player for Mac is MPlayer OSX which is also available through Versiontracker. Do not be dismayed if Stuffit Expander does not perform for you or if Quicktime fails to recognise some formats - listed on this thread are your solutions. Thanks for the aditional posts and hints i'm not on Mac OS X so its hard for me to recomend and speak with experience on these programs.
When somebody knows good usefull Mac OS X programs preferably freeware then add them to this thread so others on Mac OS X can benefit from it. Indeed a very usefull site to find Mac OS X programs is versiontracker.com: http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ |

Hey, and I thought I was the only one on OSX. Hi Mac-heads!
Got to recommend Handbrake, the DVD ripping program. http://handbrake.fr/ After reading all the difficulty PC users seem to have on this forum about ripping a disc this one is absolute child's play: Put in the disc, choose an output format, and even a final file size you want and bingo - it does it. (Especially good at making iPod/iPhone/iTunes compatible rips that you can put in your iTunes library, incidentally). Now go rip some cool retro porn and post it here |

Quicktime - audio but white screen only
If you have tried to open an avi with Quicktime and all you get is a white screen then you need to follow the prompts to the Quicktime Components page (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resou...btype=58564944) and download the xvid codec. Take care to follow the installation instructions faithfully. I only recently stumbled on this problem (again) because I reloaded my OSX 10.4 to sort out Bluetooth problems.
DubSalute : thanks for starting this thread - it will bring Mac users in from the cold and has already provided me with valuable information. Cheers. mabaline : thanks for a great post. I'm a babe in the woods when it comes to all this stuff and every pointer is much appreciated. May I make a suggestion? Store all of your out-takes of male close-ups ( I dislike them also) - they might make an interesting (all-be-it gruesome) little movie. Anyway, thanks again. |

You could try Avidemux 2.4.2 (freeware) Cutting should be straight forward with: http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/index.php?title=Cutting It has two different versions (GTK (left)(i use this one most on Windows) and QT4 (right)) Simular to VirtualDub but works on more platforms. Like VirtualDub it is also not easy, needs some getting used to. Freeware Operating Systems: 32-bit MS Windows (95/98/NT/2000/XP), Mac OS X, Linux and Ubuntu Comes with build in video and audio encoding codecs like: XviD, x264, mpeg2enc, MPEG-2, LAME, AC3, etc. and several filters. To convert VOB files you will first have to copy them to your HD. Quote:
http://avidemux.sourceforge.net/ Some manuals: http://en.flossmanuals.net/Avidemux/ http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/inde...itle=Main_Page Guide to encoding types: http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/inde...encoding_types Cutting scenes: http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/index.php?title=Cutting Quote:
When done look at the file and check if the audio is in sync. Succes. Last edited by DubSalute; July 23rd, 2008 at 12:39 PM.. Reason: typo ;) |
