The Aussies seem to have found a real gem in Peter Handscombe. 7 tests into his career and he's sitting on a batting average of 63.44. To remain not out under huge pressure after over 200 balls on an Indian 5th day pitch is quite remarkable.

Matt Renshaw also seems to fit in quite nicely alongside Warner at the top of the order. Also with 7 tests now, he's got a not-to-be-sniffed-at batting average of 48.90.

Hanscomb was overdue for a spot in the Australian side. But, you know selectors?...

Default 4th Test India v Australia

Never forget if you dont play for NSW your hopes of playing for Australia are 50% less than someone who does

Why else would Maxwell look to move from Shield Champions 2 seasons in a row
Victoria to them?

Handscombs issues probably have a bit to do with his technique which sees him bowled on average every 3rd innings - as bad as Shane Watson and LBWs - but it works for him.

His tour of the sub -continent with Australia A saw him plunder 90 , 0 & 0.
Until that 72no he was solid without actually posting a score of note.

Shame Kohli is injured for the final test

Another run feast wicket by the looks of it

SIX! Ravichandran Ashwin to David Warner. Off break half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control over long off for 6 runs.

1/120 (29overs) Smith 67no Warner 48no

Not quite the run feast as Australia were bowled out for 300 at the end of Day 1.
Great knock by Steve Smith, who is clearly the best batsman in the world at the moment.
I thought David Warner was lucky to score what he did. He should have been out first ball.
The Indians did well to pick a wrist spinner for this game. The new guy bowled well and took four crucial wickets.

Runs for those prepared to grind it out

There was an article written about how Australia had failed on previous tours because they were always trying to attack too much

I think India is a place where you dont get away with being indecisive or too adventurous
like you can in Australia

Decent debut by another Indian spinner

K. Yadav 23.0 4/68

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuldeep_Yadav

Australia had 2 similar batsmen who bowled part time in the same way
Bevan & katich - rare bowling actions were always good for partnership breaking.

1st IND 332

http://live.cricket.com.au/#/1959/41029/overview

Must be something in the pitch as 20 /632 - almost reads like a real contest

Default Contest almost over

Aust 2nd Innings 137 (From 3/87 - losing 7/50 - just like old times)

India 2nd Innings 0/19

86 more to win

Fun while it lasted but Australia losing 3 for before the spinners arrived
was always leading to disaster

A 2-1 series loss while in it up to the 4th test beats a 4-0 drubbing where nobody had a clue including those in charge - homeworkgate

If you were selecting a World XI (tests) at the moment, the 'engine room' of batting positions 3-6 must surely consist of Kane Williamson (NZ), Virat Kohli (Ind), Steve Smith (Aus) and Joe Root (Eng). But in what order?

Probably Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson for the first innings.

I would have Kane Williamson bat at No.3 in the second innings.
Quote:
Of those cricketers to play 15 or more fourth innings in tests, his average of 66.90 ranks second to Don Bradman's 73.40.

Two or three quick wickets could trigger a major collapse you never know. I was surprised to see some good fast bowling from India. Think dropping their non-bowler Ishant really helped them lol.

If he had been batting at Somerset might have been a different story, wickets tumbling like nine pins.
