I've seen a program where some folks built a hot-air balloon using technology available in Nazca at the time. Not proof that such balloons existed, but it was interesting.
More practically, I think we under-estimate "primitive" people. We are so use to not understanding how things are done...that we don't understand how old and basic certain techniques and ideas are. I think the lines were made by normal people with some leaders who were smart and inventive....but completely human.
