Being reported this morning that the deal for Desmond to sell the Star, Express and OK Magazine to Trinity Mirror is going through, although it's believed that the Competition & Markets Authority may force the two companies to continue operating separately for a while to assess the impact on the UK newspaper market.

Given that the Mirror was the first paper to stop running Page 3 girls, way back in the 80's, is this the last nail in the coffin of P3?

I'm on both sides of the fence on this. They might not touch p3 at all, because it's one of the reasons the Daily Star sell copies. On the other hand, the new owners can change the format any way they like, And that includes getting rid of p3. I think it's best to be optimistic.

Let's hope so, and they don't follow the Sun's route of just using the space for random female celeb pics- today, as we've got the Winter Olympics starting, the Sun have 'treated' us to a shot of US downhill skiier Lindsey Vonn in a sports bra top. Time was we'd have had a Page 3 girl posing with some ski gear or something like that.

I haven't bothered trying to find a version of Lindsey's pic to post because it really wasn't worth the effort- they could have at least dug up something like the bodypaint shoot she did for Sports Illustrated a couple of years back...OK, like many sportswomen, she's not over-endowed in the boob department, but Lindsey's one seriously good-looking woman...

I think it will only be bad news .
They will have started including celeb glamour to prove to its prospective new owners it still sells and the readership doesn't complain .

The only place you'll see tits and ass soon will be the sport .
