The Best Way to Destroy a Hard Drive [moved]

Found this posted on another board, and thought I'd pass along
this very useful information.

Q: What is the best way to destroy a hard drive?

A: Re-format the hard drive. Then, run a Gutmann wipe on it. Then remove it from your computer. Run a powerful electromagnet over the hard drive, in a single direction, over and over, for about a minute. Then, smash the hard drive into tiny pieces with a hammer or other device. Put the pieces into an industrial-grade incinerator. Collect the ashes from the incinerator, and compress them into a lump with a higher density than salt water. Drop the lump into the Marianas trench in the Pacific Ocean. Then go to CERN and create a black hole that swallows up and destroys the entire world, and continues expanding until it consumes the entire Universe into a singularity. The singularity should then explode into a Big Bang and initiate a new universe. Modern physics suggest that no information can pass through an event such as the Big Bang; therefore, any information that was on your hard drive should be completely inaccessible to the denizens of the new universe you have just created. Finally, enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Seems a tad excessive, I just fill them up with all my best stuff, and wait for them to die.

i am sorry to say it is impossible to destroy the info on any hard drive

.freeze it burn it smash if they want the want the info they will and can get it

Remember the toilet scene from, Trainspotting I think it was, put the drive in that toilet, they won't want the info then

I find using a hammer is thorough and deeply satisfying

But enough about my private life

For destroying hard drives i simply go onto Planet Suzy and that does the trick , as the hard drive immediately commits suicide to spare itself unnecessary pain

The last time I had a hard drive that had met its end I made sure of it by pulling it apart and taking some metal shearers to the internal parts. The platters were tough.

Even guys with paranoia can be spyed upon!

Erase them once or twice and fill them with crap again is good enough.
Even the NSA is not able to get something back from such HDs.

What some of you refering to is a very very theoretical idea somebody had to do some intelligent things with a laser.
Nevertheless in reality Heisenberg prevents him from doing so.

you tell that to the crims,your card details are still at risk,the police use such damaged hard drives for convictions !!!!!!!

What's in this drive, oh I forgot you want to destroy it. Well a 40 gallon drum with lots of wood and petrol in it should render it "destroyed"
