Contrast and compare Kate Winslet with Demi Moore for example. While Demi Moore was willing to strip she was getting work, because that's her only sellable talent. Now, not so much. I assume she'd still strip -- but really, not many takers for that.

There were a LOT of factors that sunk Striptease and Demi with it.

1. For a decade Demi was shoved down the public's throats and given roles that FAR superior actresses could have done far better. Most of this was because she was the vocal half of the most infamous Powercouple in Hollywood history, (pre Brangelina,) with Bruce Willis.

2. The ticket buying public was fed up with Demi, (this started with the Vanity Fair cover and went downhill from there.) And from what I've read in the industry papers at the time, so were the studios.

3. Demi demanded, and received, the largest single movie payout in Hollywood history for a female performer to go nude in Striptease. If you go down Hollywood's entire history, it seems that damn near every star that made such demands and got them, paid for it immediately afterwards. (Fatty Arbuckle, John Gilbert, Errol Flynn, Jim Carrey, Stallone and Tom Cruise all come very readily to mind as does the HORRIBLE press they received immediately after their own record setting paydays.)

4. Bruce left her on the eve of Striptease coming out. Normally this is the kind of press that makes a movie a hit. (See Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman's first movies post high profile breakup for a reference.) However, this time the studio simply pulled a few strings with the theatres and killed this movie within weeks. Without Bruce holding her up anymore Demi lost all credibility with the industry VERY fast.

5. ALL of the bad press she got, (from the boob job she publically vowed she'd NEVER get to negotiating her contracts through the papers to Bruce dumping her,) and the fact that the studio did her NO favors this time ultimately killed this movie and Demi's career with it. (Harrison Ford has had bombs before as has many other major stars and this was Demi's first in a decade yet their careers moved on and her's moved out. Interesting...)

I still don't believe that nudity had anything to do with her career going straight south, it was a LOT of backroom B.S. that in many ways she brought on herself.

Let's not forget, Demi got naked before Striptease, in both Blame it on Rio and (full frontal) About Last Night, and neither halted her rise to the top. It's very rare for nudity to hurt a woman's acting career. In fact, the opposite seems true. Those who publicly vow never to do nude roles are generally consigned to terrible PG-13 action movies for the rest of their careers. Look at Jessica Alba, who has made such a vow. Will she ever get a real role? Very doubtful. Fantastic Four makes a lot of money, but only the most disingenuous film people will claim those are good movies. Saying you will never do nudity seems to have the effect of telling producers that you're not serious about your craft, or perhaps are a bit of a diva.

Jessica Alba's biggest problem is that she can't act worth shit. Everytime she's tried the "serious" route it has been laughed out of theatres. Paris Hilton will be taken seriously as an actress before Jessica. (Her VERY difficult stagedad is also a major problem but more on that in a second.)

Jessica only has a career because of her body, (which she showed off Jennifer Beals style in Honey.) However, by all accounts she and her dad were total divas on the set of Sin City and we saw how her refusal to do nude scenes or even be sexy ruined this movie. (Hardcore fans of the graphic novel SCREAMED with rage when they saw how badly she ruined it.) Since then she's gone the "serious" route and then tried to make fun of her image with no success.

It's funny how much hate John Derek got for how he was on the set of Tarzan: The Ape Man yet he actually gave us what we WANTED to see of his wife. (Neither of their careers ever really recovered from this debacle.) Yet Jessica and her dad have ruined far higher profile films on and off the set and she still gets work. (I'd still do Bo LONG before I ever return Jessica's calls BTW.)

It still all depends on the actual talent of the actress and what you are known for. If all you have done are tv guest spots and B grade movies with lots of nudity you may not go any where but if you play leads and then do nudity after you are established you can do fine.
