^ I like old thread revivals. Much better as just creating a new one.
Anyway, since storage is cheap nowadays I actually double-backup my files. But only the really imnportant stuff like my selfmade pictures. The important part is to copy the files onto different drives at the moment I take them from the camera and not some time later. Only with this the backup is always up to date. In regards of porn only my few favourite go-to pics and videos have backup, the rest has none. If the majority of my porn goes tits up by hardware crash I just start collecting again. I've never paid for porn other than with my time, and I had fun during that time, so no big loss there. - Nowadays I have too much porn anyway, especially videos, there are hundreds of movies I downloaded and have never watched. I use 4TB WD Elements external drives as backup. |

Buy a blue ray burner and a 4TB external hard drive. You will have 2 copies of your files.

An external enclosure 4 bay box connected via usb3 might be a good idea as well. I have one with 4 drives and the usual RAID options, and the drives are easy to swap if needed.
4 internal drives of 4TB give you about 15TB of storage. Not bad. |

The very reason I have a NAS system on my home network. I have a NETGEAR ReadyNAS RN214 with 12TB of storage. What I like about it is that it's hot-swappable so it's very easy to upgrade at anytime. I have it about 50% full with mostly video and CAD files.

My NAS is custom built. More fun this way, although it does not support hot swapping. The casing supports it, but not the controller. Currently it is equipped with 3x6TB disks in a JBOD/Raid 0 configuration using LVM.
For backups I use an external dock where I just put in naked drives. I have two sets of backup drives I use alternating. rsync is used to create differential backups. |

I have a 2TB internal Fusion drive on my 27" iMac, a JBOD with 15TB of external storage of which 6TB is devoted to Time Machine and a separate 3TB media drive. I backup my media files to one of the big JBOD drives. When things get crowded I just buy bigger drives for the box.

Online backup services like Backblaze are very cost-effective if you don't mind using your internet line for backups. The drawbacks are the risk of the company going belly up and you would also need some time to download the movies again if you lose a drive. If your needs are 20-30 TB I wouldn't recommend SSDs as backup drives since they are both smaller and more expensive than regular HDDs.
