What do you Collect?

I'm interested to know if any members have a collection that they have built up over the years.

Mine is Man United Football programmes pre 1960, been collecting since I was a teenager and have built up a sizeable collection.

It's amazing how much some old footie programmes are worth.

My favourite

worth up to 250 pounds depending on the condition

hi inglorious, my collection is films, from in the mouth of madness, lifeforce and john carpenters vampires to stuff like dracula dead and lovivg it, but musnt forget scary movie.

Records and comics for me. As a kid from say the late 60's I use to buy a couple of Walt Disney comics each week until 1978 when they stopped printing them in Australia. In later years if I was at a secondhand bookshop or markets etc and saw ones I didn't have I would buy them. I don't know how many I've got but it would be a fair few. Mad magazines I bought until 1980 when they introduced a sub-standard Australian edition. I have them dating back to 1953 I think.

As for records. I was buying them from about 1978 and once I started work I would buy at least two or three albums a week. I was buying mainly from secondhand record shops because not liking contemporary music I was buying 60's and early 70's stuff.

Been a masive James Bond fan for years and my parents bought me the corgi cars when the films came out.My first was the underwater lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me back in 1977.Unlike most kids i kept the bond cars in their boxs after playing with them and as the years went on i just bought more and more.Now i'm a little older you realize that there is a lot of money in old models so hopefully my collection will be a nice little retirement bonus in years to come as there is a huge fan base out there.The collection started as my hobby but now its also an investment.I now have taken over a lot of space in the loft so the misses dosn't know what's up there and have added more stuff like books, magazine's,original move poster's and autograph's.It may have cost a lot of money over the years but really it's not been to bad,just buy the odd thing here and there and then after a few years it starts to mount up but it's also a bit of fun as well and enjoyed it.

I collect old toys which just take my fancy if I see them, but the collection I am most serious about are my 1st edition 'William' books by Richmal Compton, I could pick these up quite easily a few years ago but they are pretty rare now and people are aware of their value (in some cases £800-£1000) I think I need 3 to complete the set.

Know what you mean. My mate is the same with his Hot Wheels car collection too

You know eelcat you have made me quite envious for your record collection as that is one of my big regrets now!
I had a huge collection, things like Jethro Tull 'Bootlegs' which could never be replaced then one day about 10 years ago I took the lot to a charity shop thinking "I'll never play other than CD's" but the saddest thing is now you can buy a USB turntable for less than £100 and I could have made the lot digital.
I have thought about starting again but I dont think my heart would be in it.

Oh something else I have collected, I have every issue of VIZ from the very first one sold around the pubs in Newcastle to this latest.

DVD's mostly horror/science fiction/fantasy but also comedies like The Marx Brothers/Will Hay/Carry On and lots of TV series box-sets as I could not be bothered watching every week in case I missed an episode. (Now solved as I have Sky+)

I also collect the Marvel Essentials series of reprints of comics from the 1960's onward. Books by, or influenced by,H.P. Lovecraft and Michael Moorcock novels.
Also thousands of cbr versions of my favourite comic titles.

CD's mainly rock & metal but also including Billy Joel, Enya & Klaus Nomi amongst others.

Cats - have 4 of them now but at one stage 1 had 8. I'm typing this with one sat on my knee talking to me.

Vampirella stuff from the Warren years. I have a complete set of the magazines, several vintage posters, the Aurora model, a rare Yearbook, calendars, some original art and signed items.

I collect vintage UK television series/programmes and also those yellow-jacket hardback Gollancz Science Fiction first editions you used to see in libraries everywhere.

I also have a fondness for vintage hi-fi equipment but it takes up so much space I can only acquire something new at the cost of something I have, heartbreaking.
