I prepared a post in Karin Dor's thread, highlighting the lovely German actress's appearance in Assignment Terror (1970). While going through the film to snatch the shots, out popped this lady (below) in the minor role of "library receptionist," and since I was involved with snatching hoped-for snatch, I snatched these two views as well:



Her name is Diana Sorel. (Born 1946 in Spain. IMDb page.) I didn't think she looked all that special, frankly; but you know how it is. She is a woman, and those who appreciate women are compelled to look more deeply into this fascinating textbook subject, and as it turned out, Diana got a VEF mention. Yes, one measly mention on this very thread, ten years ago, compliments of Member "Chromax":

Her resplendent gesture then puts Diana in a whole different light, doesn't it? Suddenly, she becomes deserving of a closer look, for God's sake. After all, she did a very noble thing, by baring her breasts for all to see, and what is never far removed, a bit of her soul.

The film is La llamada del vampiro, which translates as "The Call of the Vampire," but its English title appears to be "The Curse of the Vampire," sometimes also known as "Horrortrip." Diana is the movie's star, which is a big deal. As this Spanish horror movie page informs (once translated), Diana plays a medical doctor, who with her assistant Erica (played by Beatriz Elorrieta, another who has also graciously revealed herself on celluloid) travels to replace the doctor of a European town who has died of a mysterious disease, also ravaging others of the town. The superstitious villagers believe the cause to be vampirism, but our scientific lady pooh-poohs the notion... at least at first.


That's Beatriz Elorrieta, to give you an idea of whom she may be. She succumbs to the disease, spoiler alert.
Oh. I guess I should have given that alert before the spoilage.


It's not long before some villain with a whip victimizes our heroine:



But it gets better. She is next victimized by a lady, which is always kinkier. What's more, the villainess had the good sense to strip her victim first.



Why is it we don't get such sleazy "turn-on" scenes in today's "regular" cinema anymore? Are people really more civilized and less base in current times than they were in the 1970s?



Naturally, I wondered who the lady wielding the whip was. As far as I can determine, her name is Loreta Tovar. She has been pretty gracious too, insofar as revealing her special charms; only a couple of months ago, Member "Kelio" kindly went through the trouble of creating, and then presenting these tantalizing GIFs of her. She's quite beautiful, and maybe I'll prepare a post of her myself. (Vintage Erotica Forum is a trap.)

The Spanish horror film site's author had also written about this film, as translated, "It is remarkable the amount of nudes and sequences with girls in light transparent clothes or nightgowns and lesbian scenes , made fashionable by the latest Hammer productions." Regarding those transparent clothes or nightgowns, it is said that in five years, and across the ocean in San Francisco, Diana's taste in wardrobe went on to launch a company called "Victoria's Secret":

She promises to be one efficient fertility machine with those hips from the first shot. Something tells me from the last shot the Spaniard is not a natural blonde.

Default Raising the Bar With Loreta Tovar

In my last post that may be seen above, I wondered who the lovely lady who was performing a whipping on the subject of the post was, and once I found out her identity, I remarked that perhaps I'll prepare a post about her as well. That time has come. Once I started getting into her, it became clear that she has been so prolific as far as appearing in the type of fare where she (bless her) had no problem being bare, it led to the question as to how she could have escaped having her own VEF thread in all of this time.



I have put up a post on a contemporary of the lady we will be exploring, the contemporary's name being Silvia Aguilar, since I grabbed additional shots from the film, 1981's Queremos un hijo tuyo, that I had dug up in preparation for this post. Putting aside the fact that the decade-old thread for Ms. Aguilar has been inadequate (many of the posts featured her as one of a crowd), the question becomes, why one and not the other?



It was full steam ahead for Loreta Tovar (born 1952; IMDb page) for a full decade, beginning in earnest in 1971, where she appeared in some forty flicks, many of which were of an exploitative nature. She then slowed down, and her occasional screen appearances became reserved for the TV screen. In fact, her last major role from 1995 was from a TV show, where Loreta appeared four times, and this was the same TV show which served as Silvia Aguilar's last screen credit. (Appearing in fourteen episodes, in the latter's case.)



I went a bit hogwild in attempting to be comprehensive; when I was finally set to present what I gathered, I learned VEF does not allow for more than fifty images per post. That's why this "Fiesta of Loreta Tovar" will be broken down into three posts. Aside from the photos found from the internet in this first of the three, in order to give you a better perspective, practically everything offered will be original frame grabs.

The first of two web pages I found to be of interest presented photos of Ms. Tovar from Call of the Vampire (1972, A.K.A. Curse of the Vampire) the one with the whipping scene from the above post: https://www.tumgir.com/tag/loreta%20tovar



The other is an interview (entitled "Loreta Tovar: a Blonde in the Fantaterror," and featuring fine photos) with Ms. Tovar from "Project Naschy," a site dedicated to Paul Naschy, the horror king of Spain: https://proyectonaschy.com/2014/01/0...l-fantaterror/. The author (once the page is Google-translated for those not adept with the Spanish language) aptly described the actress as "Quite a whirlwind of woman."

Regarding the nude scenes which it appears she did for the first time with the vampire film ("...Possibly the most explicit shot for a version destined abroad of a Spanish horror film from the seventies"), the señora stated:


"When they asked you if you were up for anything and you wanted to succeed, you weren't going to say 'hey, no, that I ... 'you said: yes. Then they told you 'you have to do this, this and that' and of course, once you have signed a contract you have to do it. It is so. My mother had a couple of disappointments when she found out, but I told her that if Dad had been there he would have killed us all (laughs) for which we have to give thanks that Dad is not with us.

These scenes were shot with great respect. A lot of respect. There was only the illuminator, the technician and they told the rest to leave. Every now and then someone was hanging up there. But hey, what difference does it make. It was his problem, not mine.

There were no deceptions, seriously, there were no deceptions. As I have always said, I used to spend the summer in Ibiza from a very young age and then the topless for me was normal, so what are we going to say about one thing I do for free on the beach. I cannot be criticized for anything. If I did really morbid scenes that would give me more ... but teach something when you can ... because when you can't, a withdrawal on time is a victory."



Loreta got her feet wet in the business with an uncredited role in 1969, waited two years before wetting those feet again in 1971, but in the next year, 1972, she started out with a bang, appearing in five films. Let us begin our Tovar coverage, or un-coverage, with one of these 1972 films, which happens to be the one from the prior post that led to this exposition, Call of the Vampire (La llamada del vampiro):



In my prior post, I reproduced part of a decade-old contribution by valuable Member "Chromax," with the first of two photos of an enticing blonde tastily lying on the ground, and wrote: "...As far as I could make out (I have not seen the movie) the other photos were of the other actresses. For example, the first shot you see above does not appear to be Diana Sorel." Well, now we know who that blonde was, as the first photo below is similar to the one that was shown.


Loreta had a pretty wonderful looking sister named María Luisa Tovar (IMDb page), and she had a very short run-in with sleazy cinema, from 1969-1973, and wasn't it simply grand of her to share her sweet secrets, and for posterity? What is kinkily cool is that in the following scene, we have a lesbian scene, courtesy of the Tovar sisters:





In an uncredited role for 1973's Count Dracula's Great Love, Loreta played what some say was the part she was born to play, in the words of an IMDb contributor (with first word corrected by me), "Blond victim in bed":




Loreta had a turn in the second of the BLIND DEAD series, the noteworthy films featuring the ghostly Templar knights; this one was called Return of the Evil Dead from 1973, and she didn't entirely expose the anatomical nooks and crannies that were not normally revealed to the outside world.



The fellow she's with in the second shot above might be novelist Steven King, but I'm not certain.




She's lying in the tub in 1973's The Sinister Eyes of Dr. Orloff, and some lady comes in and starts pounding her; the results are fatal. This was indeed a terribly tragic waste of good blonde. (Or probably peroxide blonde. Yet the hair color really doesn't matter.)




Looking sensational in 1974's The Night of the Sorcerers:



A trip for researchers to the African jungle results in an encounter with creatures who rise from the ground who have a yen for women, so that they may be whipped, and then the victims' fate is capped off with a decapitation. (The dead return, to look for more women. The dead sure can have good taste.)



Alas, Loreta gets a taste of her own medicine in the first photo above, since she was always accustomed to others losing their heads over her. This film didn't give her a break; as you may see from the first photo below, this time (unlike how I came to be aware of her) it's Loreta who gets a whipping.




From 1977's Inquisition, with Paul Naschy playing a witchfinder general, a cushy job if you can find it:



If I may be so bold as to declare, what we have here is a woman.



Who can resist that last image, in particular? Simply put, we are speaking of heaven. Notice as well that even though the other three ladies can cause anyone to reach for a paper bag to take care of the resulting hyperventilation, to my eye, Loreta just might be the prettiest-looking.

You will find "Part One" of my Tovar Trilogy, in the post above.

Continuing with our exploration of this very sexy Spaniard, let's begin with one of her later movies where she graciously allowed for existence to be more pleasurable, 1980's Yo hice a Roque III (I Made Roque III).


The first photo has been appropriated from Chromax's post, offering better clarity.
Second image is my frame grab, offering better aspect ratio.


The buddy-film comedy regards a famous ex-racing jockey who is now in low spirits after having put on weight, allowing for his hustler friend (the title's Roque) to live with him, because the latter had saved the former's life when they were kids. To get rid of Roque, the ex-jockey tricks him into believing he can win a fight (in order to face the Spanish welterweight champion who is looking to qualify for the European boxing championship; no one else wants to take a beating from him). Matters get complicated when a mobster enters the picture, and he has "some nudist bodyguard women." (Hmmmm! This is getting to be interesting.)



The film appears to play up nonsensical farce in the way certain Euro-films from the period were known for, and doesn't skimp on the nudity, given how some of the humor is certainly based on embarrassing moments. I don't know what part Loreta plays in this one, since I haven't seen the film (it was offered once by Chromax on VEF, but the link is now dead), yet I'm assuming she has been tricked in her scene so that the lucky bastard could find himself getting into her dispensed-with pants.


Another of Loreta's films with "later-stage" nudity was 1981's ¡Qué gozada de divorcio! ("What a Joy to be Divorced!")



The "hero" has three mistresses (Loreta is named "Lunes," because she is the one he enjoys on Mondays) who are fended off when marriage is discussed, because the guy is not yet divorced from his wife. This page offers an excellent idea of the film, accompanied by great photos. To no one's surprise, there are other lovelies on exposed display.



When she walks off at the end of the scene shown above (last four shots), a glimpse of her behind is offered, and that is the kind of moment which at least four out of five surveyed may find rather irresistible.




Returning now to nudity from the beginning of her screen career, Loreta was doing some rather innocent topless sunbathing in 1973's It Happened at Nightmare Inn ("Una vela para el diablo"). Unfortunately two uptight sisters running the nightmare inn have strict moral standards, and they are so moral, they kill the ones who are deemed as immoral.



Loreta gets hers by being pushed down the stairs.



Yep, the movies often offer "being pushed down the stairs" as a typical murder method, but unless one breaks one's neck, really! Falling down the stairs could bang you up pretty badly, and maybe even break a bone, but death will not easily come about with especially someone as young and strong as Loreta. Regardless, a person who looks like Loreta shouldn't get killed, and that's that.


At least the film suggests 'twas glass that killed the beauty, not necessarily the fall.


A look at a later nudity exercise is 1981's comedy, Los liantes ("The Liars"), regarding three beach swindlers who attempt to scam a superstitious millionaire playing in the nearby casino, by making him believe in an elephant man (representing good luck).




There is a great scene in a camper van (which rolls off into the water in the finale) where Loreta is caught in the buff, and a catfight scene, the kind that never fails to satisfy, ensues. (After all, it's not a real catfight unless the girls completely strip off each other's clothes. The opponent is played by Adriana Vega, who has her own VEF thread; no doubt she's deserving, but why her, and not Loreta? This question comes from someone who barely knows Loreta, and is now acting as her attorney.)



There is plenty of other female nudity in this film (what happened to those days..!), as this page will further elaborate, accompanied by great photos. (I especially appreciate the part where our "heroes" con two gullible American tourists into posing naked for promotional pictures.) Chromax was kind enough to offer a download last year, and the link still works.

Default "Fiesta of Loreta Tovar" — Part Three

This is the last part of an exploration of the magnificent Loreta Tovar, examining the ways in which she was born to be seen. Parts One and Two directly precede this one, currently to be found at the bottom of the last page (sixty-five).


Loreta plays the wife of an adulterous photographer, whose indiscretions cause her to leave him, in 1985's comedy, Cuatro mujeres y un lío ("Four Women and a Mess"). She returns near the film's end after deciding to forgive him, and the usual funny chaos takes place.



Now this was 1985, getting a little more distant than the free-for-all and anything goes times of the 1970s, and maybe Loreta had enough of putting herself in full view. She was still gorgeous at thirty-three, but the best she offered in this one was a see-through nightie.



This page gives a wonderful idea of the film, illustrated with great photos. Adriana Vega, mentioned in my last post and slightly scolded (through no fault of her own) is also part of the cast, and based on the offered photos, I must repeat what the author wrote: "Wow." (Adriana Vega absolutely was deserving of her own VEF thread.)




In 1979's Mi adúltero esposo ('In Situ') ("My Adulterer Husband"), a private dick is hired by a lady (played by Esperanza Roy, who has her own VEF thread. Hey! Why Esperanza, and not Loreta?) to catch her cheating husband in the act. I presume Loreta plays the, or one of the, "other women," as someone barges in the bedroom to take a photograph.




In 1975's Los pasajeros ("The Passengers"), two travelers walking down a road are joined by a woman, and all three are picked up by a Rolls Royce (thus becoming "passengers," I presume), and are taken to the mansion of a maniac played by Paul Naschy. The guests are asked to participate in a play, and Loreta becomes the first victim, after being seduced by Naschy. A further look at the movie.


Loreta's dead form is discovered by one of the passengers; our lady was gaining invaluable experience playing corpses.


1981's Queremos un hijo tuyo ("We Want Your Son") is the movie that led to my post for Silvia Aguilar (as long as I was grabbing shots for Loreta). Don Amancio needs to have a child in order to keep control of his business. His young wife (played by Silvia) will need to get it on with a servant who has a reputation as a wild lover. Yet Don Amancio once had it in him to produce a kid when he was younger, and is it possible he will have a reunion with the offspring from a youthful slip-up? More on this film, with accompanying photos.




Loreta is the wife of one of two employees who show up at Don Amancio's estate, and she (as well as the other wife) are aware of the stud's reputation, and take turns to take advantage. She looks lovely.




What does Loreta look like these days? Internet reference pointed to the first photo, but I can't be sure if the older lady bears a resemblance. The second photo was a grab from the trailer for Wild Sessions, a 2019 documentary of Spanish exploitation. Since I didn't see this film, the identity of the lady can't be confirmed, but I was led to believe this lady was Loreta.


It is important to bear in mind that the woman in the second photo could be somebody else.

EDIT (eight months later): With thanks to "Nzoog" from "The Classic Horror Film Board," the lady in the last shot (frame grab from Wild Session A.K.A. Sesión Salvaje, a 2019 documentary on Spanish B-films) turned out not to be Tovar, but the late Carmen Carrión. This 2012 post from Chromax will reveal that Ms. Carrión was the exact opposite of "carrion," during her days of glory.
