Default North & South

It's partly a question of where you're from & Britain has many dialects & accents
Scones or Scones ?
The Southern part of England pronounce the syllable 'own'
while in the Northern regions it gets pronounced as it's spelt, with 'one'

another word that comes to mind is Castle..
My Mum was from Dover (about as far south as you can get) and she pronounced it as 'Carsle' , whereas further North, it's less emphasis on the 'a' & you almost hear the silent 't'.

I've always pronounced Warren Beaty as Warren BT, and joule as jewel - I suppose that second might be misleading if you don't know how I pronounce jewel: with one syllable.

A lot of pronunciations change when they cross the pond: Richard VAHG-ner the composer, but Robert WAG-ner the actor. Bishop BARK-ley the philosopher but BERK-ley the Californian town named after him. And St Or-GUST-in the Catholic saint, but St Or-ge-STEEN the city in Florida. (All spelt: Wagner, Berkley, Augustine.)

BT is short for British Telecomunications the telephone people and a few years ago introduced a character called Beattie, a Jewish mother(Maureen Lipman) with a full fridge ("Anthony, you got an OLOGY? You get an OLOGY you're a scientist!" and a son Linal Haft-the typical jewish mother stereotype but it was a phenomenally successful advert. She was the personification of BT. Mind you in German there is Beate (Be-at-ter) so then it gets confusing!

I don't know anyone called Beatty. Apart from the American actor (who doesn't count) I have only heard of Admiral Sir David Beatty, who memorably expressed his compassion for the fallen when, after HMS Indefatigable exploded with a crew of 1,109 (2 were saved) and HMS Queen Mary exploded with a crew of 1,275 (9 were saved). Admiral Beatty watched Queen Mary blown to smithereens and commented:

There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today.
Was he a relative, Fleetwood?
