Trump is getting praised by a ignorant ideologues who have no grasp of economics or history. If these people are not ignorant, then they are on board with the movement to undermine and replace the United States government with a totalitarian state.

Mercantilism has been discredited for a couple of centuries. Clearly Mr. Trump was given "gentlemen C's" at Wharton and awarded a B.S. in Economics. As is noted in these links, mercantilism does increase the power of the state over its citizens. Thus, it fits well with Mr Trump's agenda to replace the traditional republican government of the United States with a cult of personality dictatorship. Unfortunately, China appears to be in the best position to exploit Trump's trade war and expand to fill the void being created by the United States abandoning its trade agreements.

The United States has been running at a loss for decades. How does it help us to force our creditors to call the loans when we are in need of investment to restore our ability to compete on the world market? Take a look at the economies of Greece and Spain to see where we are headed. Are you really advocating that we embrace an austerity plan?

How the hell is an austerity plan compatible with ramping up military spending?
