It is extremely naive and lacking in savvy for Mr Bolton to appear on talk shows and mouth off about America's demands and America's plans for North Korea's future. Statesmen should know better than that, and the North Koreans are never likely to react well to this sort of thing.

In the afterglow of the Iranian nuclear treaty farce, the North Koreans may also be reflecting that their negotiating partner is less reliable than an Italian motorcycle parked in the rain.

IMO, each nation must determine and seek to advance its own interests. I fear that many of my fellow Americans believe that other nations should just fall into line with our desires and programs. Personally, I don't see why other nations should transfer wealth or yield their sovereignty to the United States. It is my opinion that the state of Israel has never hesitated to put the United States and other allies in a bind to advance its own agenda.

I have noted several times that it is my opinion that the United States refusal to recognize the authority of the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice is stupid and short sighted. A country that wishes to claim moral authority must stand for the rule of law and lead by example. The United States has too often operated as a rogue nation since 1984 and even earlier, e.g., refusal to honor the negotiated settlement of the First Indochina War and our subsequent military intervention in Vietnam.

Regardless of what some our political leaders have tried to claim, the United States does not appear to be operating with any kind of divine guidance and wisdom. We are increasingly finding that the massive spending necessary to dominate the world militarily is economically and politically unsustainable. We are going to be forced into being a good and cooperative partner in the community of nations. One can only hope that the international community treats us with kindness and compassion. I would have no problem accepting war crimes trials for our leaders who have engaged in reckless slaughter.

I love the way Donald's pet hawk is holding up Libya as an example of how disarmament can benefit the modern dictator..Pity the Colonel isn't still around to give Kim His personal recommendation.If Donald J's concept of negotiation is the North Koreans giving in to all His demands first,I fear that these talks will be less historic than hoped..

He's (smartly) taking his lawyers advice. If you don't know, or don't remember, it's not perjury later when it is proved up what you said and did.

Of course, saying "I don't remember" 134 times makes it obvious that you are lying, especially when it concerns events that are barely a couple of years old. It also makes it hard to suddenly say "Oh! Now I remember", though if things get rough, he just might try that ploy.

Just finished reading The Revenge of Geography by Robert D. Kaplan. There are those who believe that the Southwestern states of the U.S. and the northern states of Mexico will join together to form a new nation before the end of this century. It is noteworthy that six of twelve important cities north of the current border are over 90% Hispanic and only San Diego and Yuma, Arizona are less than 50% Hispanic. I don't really see that happening so soon, but do note that the U.S. is at enormous risk if it cannot work with the governments of Mexico and other Latin American nations to end the gang violence and governmental dysfunction there.

Another observation is that Israel is demographically doomed by its birthrate, which is less than half of that of the Palestinians and neighboring Arab countries. I assume that many on VEF are unaware that Israel's long term plan is to expand by absorbing Jordan and a good part of Syria. The demographics are very much against that happening. The most likely outcome is that Israel will eventually be overrun by Arabs and suffer great reprisals for its crimes.

Finally, Iran by virtue of its location, history, and superior economy and educational system is destined to resume its historical domination of Central Asia. It is providing market access for the energy exports of the landlocked former Soviet republics. Western China, southern Russia, and northern Iran all intersect in these regions. Western Afghanistan has historically been a province of various Persian empires. China has already built many pipelines, rail networks, and highways connecting it to these nations and consumes the entire oil and natural gas exports of at least one of those.

It appears that Mr. Trump, with his East Coast bias and historical and scientific myopia is pushing an agenda that is on the wrong side of lasting and powerful forces.
