I may be getting confused, but I think it's working now, when it wasn't last week.

I never searched for 'ryan+matthews' last week, just 'ryan matthews' and that works now, but I think it didn't last week.

I've found another:

If I search for "Johanna Sugarman" (no quotes) & restrict the search to softcore models only, not incl. sub-forums, I get no found matches. If I search for "Johanna" (still no quotes), it finds the following (desired/intended) thread: http://www.vintage-erotica-forum.com...ad.php?t=47818 which is titled: "Johanna Sugarman / Ellen / Roberta / Lulu " (copied & pasted, only change was to un-bold).

Searching for "sugarman" finds no matches. Searches for each of ellen, roberta, and lulu do find her.

I can recall some time ago suggesting that softcore mods. consider amending that thread's title, due to the linked inclusion within it of her Penthouse pictorial under the "Johanna Sugarman" name. Could that be where the inconsistency between the vef/vBulletin database index and the thread title arose--i.e. a mod. updated the thread title accordingly, but that didn't trigger a db index update, hence not "findable" as such?

/shrug/ Just speculating.

search on titles rather depends on post titles, not on thread titles.

sometimes it happens that we have thread titles which are different from the post title of the first post (can happen when threads were splitted, merged or posts were moved to different threads).

Right, & the first post's title is: "Johanna Sugarman / Ellen / Roberta / Lulu", as set by the mod. when they amended that thread's title.

Idle curiosity: if a user amends the title of their first post in a vef thread, the thread's title isn't similarly amended, but it seems like mods. do need to amend the title of the first post in a thread in order to amend the thread title?

Alright, perhaps going a bit astray but still curious.

members can only change the thread title as long as they edit their first post and no other member has visited it yet. as soon as it was visited, thanked or answered he can just modify the post title without any effect on the thread title. these titles are 2 different items in the database.

the moderator can always modify post and/or thread titles. if a modification of thread or post title affects the other item as well, depends on which edit-dialog he is using. he can modify them both with one action, or each item separate. i assume, most mods don't know much about the technical parts of the board software, they are editors, but no software/database experts, so you will see those thread/post title difference quite often.

The drop-down box from Search on the menu bar does AND searches, and the Advanced Search does OR.

That is, the ordinary Search is the same as putting searchstring1+searchstring2 into the Advanced Search, which returns posts (or threads with such posts, if you select the Threads radiobutton) that contain both words.

[EDIT]
Even if you start with a search from the drop-down menu, you always go to the Advanced Search if no matches are found, and a hidden consequence of this is that your first search uses implicit AND and the second one implicit OR. Try entering a string of two words in the drop-down search box, the first one a word that you know exists on the forum, the second one a nonsense word that doesn't; you'll get no results - but if you then leave the string unchanged and press 'Search Now' at the bottom of the page, you get all the results that contain the first word.

I've looked and since I don't see the answer, I need to ask. I am presently working my way through the 3000+ pages of a particular thread and creating an Excel spreadsheet of unidentified models (I figure this can be my contribution). Is there a way I can find a specific post using its unique identifier? I sure as hell hope so.

Good question. I'm not aware of being able to perform a vef "find" with/for an input post id, but: if you have/know the post id, then you don't need to perform a find per se, simply "visit" it using the "showpost" php function, replacing NNNNN with your post id number:

Code:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showpost.php?p=NNNNN
The "showthread" php function can also take a post id input:
Code:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?p=NNNNN
... as well as a thread id input, if you're seeking a thread by its id:
Code:
http://vintage-erotica-forum.com/showthread.php?t=NNN
... just be careful to match up the appropriate p= or t= following the question mark.

Hope that helps.
