Default Your favorite sports moments

Here are mine:

- Eli Manning's game-winning touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress at Super Bowl XLII

- Kirk Gibson's walk-off home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series

- Chris Hoiles's ultimate grand slam (bottom of the 9th, down by three runs, two outs, 3-2 pitch) to propel the Orioles above the Mariners in a 1996 regular season game

- Monday Night Miracle (the Jets' improbable victory over the Dolphins in 2000)

- Buster Douglas's brilliant performance against Mike Tyson in 1990

What are some of yours?

The Miracle on Ice

Every Ohio State football win over Michigan (scUM)

When my idol Jack Tatum (Oakland Raiders) flattened Skip Thomas of the Vikings
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gARi1MIyPRc

Boxer Ray, "Boom Boom" Mancini bursting two gloves on two consecutive punches. The third punch was a KO. Total fight time was like 15 seconds

I agree about The Miracle On Ice in 1980. That was one of the most memorable sporting events I can recall. But no offense Anklebiter, that was Sammie White of the Vikings getting blasted by Tatum. As a long suffering Vikings fan, I remember it well.

My favorite personal moments was Jack Morris pitching 10 complete innings in Game 7 of the 1991 World Series to lead the Twins to the Championship. That was a great day to be a Twins fan. Doug Flutie Hail Mary to help BC beat Miami in 1984. Boise State beating Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Two of the greatest college football games I have ever seen. Dolphins/Chargers playoff game in 1982 "The Epic In Miami." Reggie Jackson's 3 HR game in game 6 of 1977 World Series. Too many to recall.......

The Bills 51-3 pasting of the LA Raiders in the 1991 AFC Championship game. I was there and the feeling of your team going to its first Super Bowl is amazing.

Scott Norwood's FG to give the Bills a 9-6 OT victory over the Jets to clinch the 1988 AFC East title. The birth of "fandemonium."

Rudy Galindo's win in the 1996 US Figure Skating Championship. Electric.

The 100M dash in the 1991 World Track & Field Championship. Carl Lewis won in world-record time and the first six finishers all ran under 10 seconds.

Kirk Gibson's HR in the 1988 World Series. Eckersley's still trying to figure out how that gimp hit that ball.

Secretariat's win in the 1973 Belmont. After a while, you weren't watching a horse race, you were watching a horse run.

Christian Laettner's game winner over Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA Tournament. Arguably the greatest college basketball game ever.

The 2007 Fiesta Bowl, Boise State over Oklahoma. Arguably the greatest college football game ever.

Good call. Skip actually played for the Raiders. His name must have been fresh in my mind after watching the video
Reggie Jackson. Man, he was a sports hero.

Another vote for Kirk Gibson's '88 World Series homer
The Lakers finally beating the Celtics in '85
Lakers beating San Antonio with Derek Fisher 0.4 shot
Green Bay Packers winning Super Bowl XLV
The Miracle on Ice
And, hopefully, The Kings winning the Stanley Cup this year

AC Milan thrash Real Madrid 5-0 (San Siro, second leg of 1988-1989 European Champion Clubs' Cup). Milan of 1988-1989 is the greatest football team of all times in my opinion.
Greece won the semifinal of the 2006 world basketball championships against team USA 101-95. David won Goliath.
The long jump final of 1991 world championships in Tokyo. Mike Powel vs Carl Lewis. An epic. Both men jumped over the mythic world record of Bob Beamon. Powel won with a jump at 8.95 (5th attemp).
Men's 200 metre freestyle swimming of the Athens Olympics 2004. Ian Thorp (AUS) 1st, Pieter van den Hoogenband (NED) 2nd and the 19 years old Michael Phelps 3rd. 3 legends of swimming on the podium. Rare.
Rafael Nadal smash Roger Federer in 2008 Rolland Garros Final 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. If you see only the score you might think that is win against world no. 150+ on 1st round.

As keefriff says, really "...too many to recall."

Boxing:

Ali / Frazier I : Only heard it on radio, as closed circuit tv had already begun to ruin the sport, but radio or not, a terrific fight, with Burt Lancaster(????) as commentator. A contest with political, social, racial implications like no other before. Remember being surprised to discover my conservative, WWII veteran father had become an Ali fan.

Olympic Boxing Final, Montreal 1976: Leo Randolph, Howard Davis, Ray Leonard, and Leon & Michael Spinks all win gold on the same night. Highlight: Leon Spinks, being seriously outboxed by Cuban Sixto Soria, goes suddenly berserker and pummels him into a tko in the 3rd

Leonard / Hearns I - A tremendous fight with constantly shifting tides of fortune. Hearns, the KO king, finds he can't stand toe-to-toe with Leonard... so he gets on his bicycle & becomes a boxer... and is winning as the fight goes into the 14th, only to be caught at last by one of the best combination punchers since the original Sugar Ray. Drove 40 miles to see it on closed circuit (Bob Arum, may you rot in hell!)

Football:

Superbowl I: First meeting of the NFL & AFL for all the marbles. The Green Bay Packers of Vince Lombardi methodically chew up and spit out the very formidable Kansas City Chiefs. Almost the last hurrah for the Packers of Hornung, Taylor, & Bart Star (Bret who???).

Superbowls XVI & XXIII: 49ers vs Bengals Two great games between two teams who always gave each other their best, both decided in the last minute.

Superbowl XIII: Steelers vs. Cowboys An epic, brutal struggle decided when Jackie Smth drops a pass in the end zone that probably wins the game for Dallas.

Monday Night Football 11/20/78 Rookie Earl Campbell scores 4 touchdowns, including an impossible 81-yard run in the 4th quarter.

Superbowl XLII: The New York Giants defense puts "Tom Terrific" Brady time after time on his ass & Eli Manning pulls miracle after miracle out of his.

Basketball: In the NBA it's usually series, not games.

NBA Finals, 1974: Celtics vs. Bucks Cowens & Havilachek vs. Kareem & the Big O. Seven hotly contested, emotionally grueling games

1975 Warriors/Bullets The heavily favored Elvin Hayes & Wes Unseld led Bullets lose 4 straight to the underrated Warriors & Rick Barry, despite leading late in all four.

Every Russel/Chamberlain, Sixers vs Celtics series I ever remember

Button winning the Canadian Grand Prix by passing Sebastian Vettel on the last lap. 2011

Coventry City beating Spurs 3-2 1987 FA cup

and by far the best moment for me : Paul Gascoignes Euro96 goal against Scotland. Stunning.
