And the Midnight Surfer storyline from 2000AD would also be awesome.

Just skim-read this thread and was surprised not to see any votes for Rogue Trooper.

War films and Sci-fi seem to be in vogue at the moment so a film set in a future "total war" of attrition might be interesting. Also has a good origins / back story and opportunities for interesting interplay between Rogue and his bio-chip equipment. Plus the crazy inhabitants of Nu-Earth and the range of outlandish weaponry, be it giant Blackmare tanks, Waldos, cyborg bombs to name but a few, not to mention the effects of the biological and chemical agents polluting the planet would make it look like a war on acid.

The obvious story would be an "origin" starting with the Quartz Massacre and Rogue's subsequent desertion to hunt the general who betrayed him an the other GI's. But I reckon one film wouldn't do it justice as in the comics the traitor slipped through Rogue's grasp so many times. I'd go for an origin story to set everything up, then an almost stand alone middle film that ends with a teaser to be concluded with a final film focussed on the showdown between Rogue and the Traitor General.

Can't think who would play the central character, though

Looking back on this thread, I see several comics that have been done as TV shows and films, both live action and animated.

It might be in the pipeline somewhere but I think Lobo would make a great movie.

Work-in-progress trailer for SEARCH AND DESTROY.
Provided by Strontium Dog fan film
Johnny Alpha - Strontium Dog , should be made as a real big movie by a British Film Company ( no Hollywood ruining it )
or made as a series by the Game of Thrones producers !

Noticed quite a few mentions of stories from 2000AD- Dredd, Strontium Dog etc.

Must admit I'm a little surprised to see no mention of 2000AD creator Pat Mills' other great work, with artist Joe Colquhoun- his World War 1 epic 'Charley's War', which for me is one of the great masterpieces of British comics. I was never really into sci-fi, and 2000AD kind of passed me by, and Charley's War is the main thing I remember about reading comics as a kid/teen at the end of the 70's. Not just your basic 'blood guts and heroism' war story strip, but heavily researched (IIRC Mills quit after a dispute with management about his research budget), and often surprisingly political for a story in a comic

I've recently been reading some of the re-publication in book form, and even though it's 35-40 years after I last read them, it's surprising how many times I thought 'Ah, I remember that bit'

I reckon there's more than enough in the 7/8 years it ran to inspire a film or TV series version
