Sarah Miles putting in a terrific performance as the titular character in biopic Lady Caroline Lamb (1972). The film portrays Lady Caroline Lamb's scandalous affair with Lord Byron, it was she who coined the famous description of him being "Mad, bad, & dangerous to know". Sarah Miles is well cast as the passionate & volatile Lady Caroline Lamb & Richard Chamberlain is very effective as a vain, self important Lord Byron who soon tires of her attentions.    These two of Sarah Miles in the diaphanous Empire line gown seem to be from a posed promotional shoot as that particular look is not in the version of the film I've seen.   Richard Chamberlain seated beside Sarah Miles dressed as a Regency period representation of a Nubian slave.   Alternate link to an Imagebam gallery for those who prefer here. It's a very hard film to see in my experience. I've only ever been able to find a video recording version, complete with volume adjustment signage popping up onscreen from time to time. At a guess I'd put its scarcity down to Sarah Miles' Lady Caroline Lamb at one point being dressed as a Nubian slave at a fancy dress party, effectively in "black face". Personally I don't find this particular case offensive since she's not supposed to be anything other than a Regency period white European, simply dressing up as a period correct artistic interpretation of a Nubian slave. One would not reasonably expect Regency high society to be culturally sensitive. The scene is also not about belittling dark skinned people, it's actually a very good scene, perhaps the film's standout, depicting the rapidly deteriorating relationship between the obsessive Lady Caroline & the narcissistic Lord Byron (Richard Chamberlain). The scene deftly moves from cheekily saucy (her late entrance in the daringly revealing costume) to comically embarrassing (getting her prop fan stuck in a chandelier) to humiliatingly tragic (very public break-up with Byron).
