A far better machine than any Harley, even though (like any Italian bike) it has build quality issues. Any Harley is basically a tart's handbag. If you own one, you'll spend more time polishing it than riding it and there won't be enough Solvol Autosol in the world.
The California is not the direct descendant of the Moto Guzzi T5, but more like its bigger niece. The T5 is a really excellent motocycle for anyone who is a tad on the large side. Only 850cc against the 1400cc moor of the Califiornia. but it has enough bottom end torque to pull out tree stumps; the original Guzzi V twin was designed for agriculture. The California is a high class escort/call girl, while the T5 hangs out on dark and rainy street corners in Kings Cross. Its a shame they don't still make the T5; but there are still quite a few of them around, because the frame is strong and the engine tougher than German paratrooper boots. Its usually the electrics which are dodgy, like with most Italian bikes.

And you're probably one of those who associate some sort of social stigma with the red-white-and-blue blooded owners of America's most beloved motorcycle?! They're the salt of the earth I tell you... ... not to mention resourceful! And I have it on good authority neither of these two fine machines has ever leaked a drop of motor oil! If i ever do buy a bike, it'll be a Harley. I even have a ridin' buddy in mind... Oh sure, scoff if you like. Know this won't make much of an impression on a socially & ecologically conscious guy like you. I'll bet if you owned a bike, it'd probably be some fancy Hybrid... what do you call a Harley without a puddle of oil under it? Empty! |

dabbled a bit when i was younger; (not actual bikes but same colour as ones i once owned)
the AP50 was a great starter bike, faster than new ones which were restricted, and much sexier than a three-wheeler at 16. the C90 was all i could afford after having gotten back from a driving ban (totting up speeding points) but on the plus side, i made it all the way from Bham to Aberystwyth & back for less than £4 in petrol. the RD250 was fast enough for me for a while, but decided to trade to a bigger bike... the CX500....... what a bag of shite.... top heavy like a bitch, even if it was super fast and scared me and the public at large with its straight thru exhaust pipes. Briefly back to Yamaha for the RD350LC...... mistake... those power bands kicked like a mule if you weren't totally focused, and got sick of nearly wrecking it every ride. Last foray into 2 wheels came at the hands of a bike i can only describe as a heartless beast..... the ZZR600.... closest thing to a missile you could ride, and the throttle response scared me so much i gave up bikes for good after this one.... my fat arse spent half the ride trying to claw its way back up the seat, and my wrists hurt from holding on so tightly every time i even breathed on the throttle twist..!! damn killer in the making that bike.
