Agreed. Sensational follow-up to 'Infinity War' with characters that were thoughtfully fleshed out from their comic book bases via a solid script and engaging performances from the cast, especially from Larson in the title role. In many spots this interpretation of Danvers' origin and the Kree/Skrull backstory is more imaginative and engaging than the comics themselves. This picture was so well done in every way. Great stuff. |

Watching Kursk (2018).
About this Russian Submarine disaster: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kursk_submarine_disaster All because of one dummy fire exercise torpedo that didn't have the correct weld seals to keep its high test peroxide fuel from leaking. The torpedo room crew kept reporting to the Captain that the temperature of the torpedo was rising several degrees each minute and the Captain just waved them on: I am not firing that torpedo until it's time for us to do our firing exercise. |

Like loosegoose, just back from watching Captain Marvel
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4154664/ A complete re-imagining of the background story of Carol Danvers, although keeping the basics elements of the origin story, it tweaks some other parts and it worked really well. Nice touch with the homage to Stan Lee at the start instead of the usual Marvel movie logo there's even a brief Stan the Man cameo aboard a train as "Vers" chases a fleeing Skrull. Don't want to give too much away but the Kree v Skrull situation is not what you might expect from the comics. It's got plenty humour, loads of action and plenty twists along the way and Goose the cat The first end credits scene neatly ties in with the forthcoming Avengers-Endgame movie. It is not what I expected but it easily surpassed all my expectations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1BCujX3pw8

Small review of Captain Marvel
Like a lot of people, I just got back from watching Captain Marvel. As I was watching it, I thought that it was ok, but when it was all done and I left the theater I realized I really did enjoy it and it was a very good film. I guess the problems with it were the pacing and the world building (Marvel's sure gotta make sure you know it's part of the larger MCU). It felt a bit like a long episode of Babylon 5, not that that's a bad thing. It gets a little long in the second act but all things considered, not bad. The de-aging for Jackson and Gregg was quite the sight to behold. This film does change a lot of things you comic heads thought you knew though, but hey, I guess you have to have a fresh take on things otherwise what's the use. From the beginning, it's hard to identify the good buys from the bad guys even when you are "supposed" to know who is supposed to be who, and just when you get comfortable with who you think is who and who is fighting for what, little twists pop up. Brie Larson was good (though I'm biased, I've been a fan since Scott Pilgrim) Jude Law was good, Mendelsohn was great, and hell, everyone else was good. I wanted more Gemma Chan though! Bottom line, give it a watch.

Bigfoot: The Curse of Blood Mountain (2014)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3834906/ Two friends hear about alleged sightings of Bigfoot on Blood Mountain so they hire a guide to take them where he has been sighted recently ..... Meanwhile a group of partying yoofs are staying in a cabin in the woods. The big critter is spotted several times in the surrounding trees but who is it after ?? The two groups meet at the cabin and after surrendering their phones so they can have a quiet weekend they start to relax ..... meanwhile, back in the forest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wSY8Pg9vuU

CAPTAIN MARVEL
Can Captain Marvel remember her past, ally herself with Nick Fury, and give the audience a great origin story? PRAISE: Brie Larson as Vers / Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel is not as dry and distant as she was in the trailers. She actually infuses life into the character here and there in the film. Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos was quite amusing and turns in a good performance. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury was good and had good chemistry with Larson. There are some good moments between Larson and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau and daughter Monica portrayed by Akira Akbar. Some good mid 90's nostalgia throughout the film. Goose the cat steals several scenes. The SFX and action sequences were done well for the most part. I liked that we get a further peek into the Marvel Cosmic Universe. PROBLEMS: I felt like Jude Law and Annette Benning were sidelined for most of the movie. The movie is trying to do a lot of things. An origin story, explanation of the war between the Kree and the Skrulls, and a semi fish out of water story, which made the film drag in some spots. I knew some SJW moments would be in the film because well look at how the film was marketed.I still felt like i was being hit over the head with it at times. I was not on board for the changes to Marvel canon, and the twist that lead to some unintentional laughable scenes. The film misses a few oppurtunities to be epic but it loses it's focus at times and some things are written off as a joke.I actually through my hands up and rolled at my eyes at how some things played out. Kevin Feige wasnt lying when he said Captain Marvel would be the starting point of everything...GEEZ !! I would say Captain Marvel is above Iron Man 3 and Thor The Dark World not great but OK. Scale of 1-10 a 6½ SIDENOTE: I really dislike that some critics are adding to their reviews:To bad if you dont like to see women as the leads in films. That's not a fact! People just want to see good to great movies they spend their hard earned money on! |

Border. A Swedish fantasy, scifi, horror, mystery, romance...I'm not sure how to describe it...about a customs office with a apparent genetic deformity, who has the uncanny ability to sniff out guilt/fear. Then one day she meets a suspicious man named Vore and everything changes. By the writer of Let The Right One In (the original not the crappy American/British remake) so weird arthouse stuff abounds, but it's an enthralling movie.
