Tumblr about to permanently ban adult content forever

Hello my fellow VEF community.

After quite a number of years, Tumblr has announced that as of December 17th, they will no longer allow "adult content" to be posted on their site.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of personal blogs on Tumblr of people chronicling their personal relationships with porn, their particular preferences and fetishes with porn, etc. As December 17th it will be no more.

I followed Tumblr regularly for porn blogs, I found some of the absolute best content and the most creative, amazing people I've ever known.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but to me this is gigantically bad news. Anyone who believes in free speech and free expression, which most of us on VEF if not all of us do! -

This should scare the crap out of all of us. Between this and Facebook's recent purging of hundreds of their pages that contain alternate media content they deem to be "out of mainstream thinking and to be 'fringe' political beliefs", I genuinely believe that corporate mainstream power will eventually crush ANY and ALL content that dares to actually be skeptical and ask questions and dare to think for themselves.

Now what exactly will qualify as "adult content" to Tumblr. Who the fuck knows? They may allow softcore (or what they consider to be softcore, as in Playboy models only but nothing harder, etc.) , or perhaps allow "mainstream erotica" in the form of nude modeling that's not technically generated by a porn site but by mainstream sites like Glamour, Vogue, etc.? Who knows. The bottom line is Tumblr is banning any and all porn produced and posted on their site.

I would love to know what corporate influence or force has driven this decision. I would not be surprised if it's linked to shareholder value and some whackjob CEO who suddenly got morals and decided he wants to run a G-rated Disney Tumblr.

In any event, this is scary and we live in scary times. Free expression and right to free press is being quietly snuffed out here and there behind the scenes, and barely anyone utters a peep about it in the media. No big surprise there.

Wow, that sounds exactly like President Trump and we all know what a rock of morals and ethics and doing the right thing and honesty he is, don't we?

In fact if you had bothered to actually read beyond the headlines of the stories on and off line about this, which you obviously couldn't be bothered to do because....why exactly? Oh yeah, because you just had to fap fap fap fap fap fap to the latest volume of Triple Butthole Fucked Ass To Mouth Spitting In Sluts Faces Orgy. Which, sure, whatever.

The reason Tumblr is doing this is child pornography.

Because apparently there is a few metric shit tons of child porn on Tumblr. I have no first hand knowledge of this as I am not a degenerate pervert.

Now, I'm reasonably sure that you will come back with some bullshit like, "Well how hard could it be to just have the moderators on Tumblr delete it, I mean we don't have any child pornography here in VEF?!?!"

Which is, I suppose a fair question. Also an incredibly stupid an ignorant question, but a fair one nonetheless.

Couple reasons.

1)Unlike VEF, Tumblr doesn't have moderators, at least not like the ones here at VEF. You know, who are clearly identified as moderators and administrators.

2) More importantly, all things considered and no offense intended, but VEF is a very small forum where the Internet is concerned. Sure it's rated as one of the best porn forums by the people who actually make money rating such things, but compared to a place like Freeones, VEF is still pretty small potatoes and dare I say,a bit outdated, or antiquated. Which isn't to say that it doesn't serve it's intended purpose very well, quite the contrary. Tumblr is larger and more complex by several orders of magnitude and even though they supposedly have bots rushing around looking for and deleting pages/images that violate the terms of service, unlike VEF Tumblr is simply too large for the company to pay enough people* to work 24/7 shifts rooting out illegal content.

3) One other important difference is that here at VEF, to an extent the forum and it's members police themselves, members reporting questionable posts/material/vids to the moderating team, because there is a shared benefit for doing so. That doesn't really exist on Tumblr.

It is damn clear what material is and isn't allowed here at VEF, especially when it comes to the age of someone.

*I have no idea if the moderating team here at VEF is compensated in any way. If so, hurrah for you, good sirs. If not, thank you for volunteering your time to keep this board up and running.

Wow, I must say I have no idea where all the anger and aggression towards my post is coming from! Jeeez man, take it down a few notches.

First of all sir - YES, I am regular contributor and user of The Wank Club on VEF. Yes, I use and consume pornography on a regular basis. Your reply borders on both being insulting and patronizing, which I don't appreciate.

I have been a member of VEF since 2013 and contribute also to numerous threads that are non-porn threads as well as porn ones.

So, I would ask you show a little more respect before flying off the handle and attempting to put me in my place.

Secondly, I DID read beyond the headline. I DO know that it's targeting child pornography. That point is not lost on me. But apparently you were so busy thinking of ways to cut me down to size that you couldn't bring it upon yourself to enter into a more reasonable and balanced discussion about this.

This is an example of because some people violate the rules of website, you simply punish everyone for it? Yes, Tumblr is huge and has thousands of people posting all manner and types of porn content. However child porn has a way of being reported very quickly, even on non-moderated sites such as Tumblr. The CORRECT way a corporate entity handles this is to keep up a robust reporting system that shuts down any pages that violate their terms of service.

Short of basically saying that my perversion and desire to immediately jerk off to porn, which according to you has somehow short-circuited my reading and critical thinking abilities, I would advise you to tone down your "put me in my place" garbage and show a little more respect to those who do consume porn on VEF. Porn is a huge element of VEF as it was on Tumblr. Many predict that because porn was such a huge part of Tumblr's content and membership base, that this may ironically kill the entire site to the point where Tumblr goes out of business because it will lose such a large part of its membership base.

I did not create this thread with the intention of having someone "explain to me how the world works" sir.

Further, when I said that a "CEO suddenly got morals" I was being sarcastic. What I meant was that there had to be some kind of FINANCIAL pressure behind the scenes that was driving this beyond the child porn issue. Whenever you see a web site like Tumblr doing something that has the intention of "cleaning up" content and "protecting people from child porn", you can better believe that there were also OTHER motives and agendas behind it. Don't tell me that this was purely for the good of protecting kids, that's utter garbage.

I appreciate what the mods do here on VEF as much as anybody, and know and respect them, but I totally fail to see what the VEF moderators have to do with the issue with Tumblr.

I used to follow lots of people and stuff on Tumblir, and enjoyed commenting or requesting stuff, especially to do with amateur porn, wives especially but after a break I forgot my username, password and even what my page looks like, so I might not miss it if if does get censored, however I would still like the notion that I could return to following Tumblir posts, provided my brain sparks back into remembering the necessary details. It would help if I knew which email address I used when enrolling with them.

I solved that by using the same email address, username and pw for all sites except bank and investment ones.

You dont need to be all that smart to know this is a short term survival mode decision

We saw photobucket take the big stick to all pics on 3rd party sites while demanding a kings ransom last year - they are now trying to revive their business

Tumblr are going after the adult end in the hope it wont destroy their business
but will reduce their operating costs

The logic is pretty simple

declining ad-revenue cant sustain current bandwidth usage or the profit levels they are after


Protecting the children is a favourite used by businesses to soften the backlash
from its users

When all the porn on Tumblr is gone it will take you 226 years and 51 weeks to look at all the porn on the internet, instead of 227 years even.
