My Dad is old enough to remember the war but he always has liked the Germans in the films because they 'had nice smart uniforms' whereas the British 'looked scruffy'
I do see the point regarding Propaganda, if you watch most American made films you wouldn't think the British or any other country (apart from Germany) was involved in the fighting the war. |

The problem with Merkel is that she is a black widow. She sabotages and destroys anybody who could possibly become a threat to her power position in the "CDU" party.
So there is nobody who could be a credible heir to her. "Yes" men and women as far as the eye can see. Combine this with the fact that there is no limit as to how many times she can be reelected cancellor. It's not like in the US with a two term limit. Her predecessor, Kohl, was reelected FOUR times! She really could be chancellor for the rest of her life, like a monarch. Now add the fact that the opposition consists of either far left green lunatics or far left relics of the DDR system. There are the Social Democrats, who slit their own throats by cutting down the welfare state in their term of government in the early 2000s. One could argue that this was necessary then, but their constituency has abandoned them in droves for this. They are now satisfied being a junior partner in a "big coalition", making sure that nothing can touch Merkel. They have essentially given up on themselves. Not that this matters anyhow, because all parties have the same policies anyhow. It's "Euro über alles" and political correctness, because... There was no real right wing party in Germany because of this until now. The "AfD" is coming up, now that Merkel is destroying Germany, and it is just horrendous to watch what is happening in the big media here. It's just never ending mudslinging from ALL media outlets. Sometimes it's literally the same, word for word, diatribe in any newspaper, like somebody is coordinating everything. There are exaggerations on some things, and then there is omission and silence on other things. Seems like centrally planned, most likely a "coalition of the willing". For somebody claiming to be anti-Nazi, they sure as hell have learned a lot from them... Politically interested people here have seen through this now, thanks to the internets, but the sheeple, they still fall for it, hook, line and sinker. So, Merkel will be with us for a LONG time, at least until something really bad happens with literally millions of disappointed, military age angry young men from Islamic foreign countries within the countries borders. Yesterday I read about a young Iraqi woman, who returned to Iraq after having spent 11000 Euros on traffickers to come to Germany, because there was nothing here for her but a bunk in some gym somewhere. Today I read about a bunch of young Nigerian women attacking helpers and threatening to hurt their own babies if they don't get their own flat like right now. Nothing from the angry young men, yet... |

Germany is fortunate in having good dubbers. Nearly all the movies I watch are German-dubbed, and I'm sure they're more intelligible than the original language in many cases |

@zxmar05: this anger about the politicians and the whole situation here in germany is a sign for the powerlessness of the people. it's like you said, merkel is a black widow and the poeple realize that there is no political alternative to her. there is absolutely nobody in german politics who is known enough to compete to merkel. and the people here only think in political dimensions. they can't imagine another way to solve our problems and the problems which are the reason for our problems.
i guess people in the 30's had the same imagination-problems and took the one who shouted out the things, the people had in mind. the people have to, and they will, believe in themselves and end this fuss. but it's like always, it needs a few people who do the first step and all others will follow

I took a friend of mine who was a Major in the Luftwaffe (an F4 jockey) to both my Regimental Museum and Durham Cathedral when he visited me one time. He found it difficult to understand the RAF memorial in the Cathedral, why should the war dead be honoured in a church.
We dwell on the war because we were on the winning side and it cost us whatever treasure we had left after WW1. The Germans don't dwell much on it because they lost and because to be honest it wasn't the greatest episode in German history. |

the ring? hmm, i guess not.
today the track is way shorter than the earlier ones and i don't know if they even own the ground where the old track was. here you can see the different layouts https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hocken...C3%BCrttemberg i also have a videolink to an afterwards colored version of berlin and parts of munich from the time between 1900 and 1914. very interesting and it doesn't look so depressing like the black/white-recordings of this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-m9A8mY-U0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dF1IjU0Njc
