Well, this fellow does fit my profile of a likely perpetrator.

Only a deranged person of limited intelligence would conceive of such actions and believe that it would work. From the targets, it could easily be gathered that a right-wing crazy was the source. Fortunately no postal workers were harmed.

Sadly, Mr Trump gives such people a voice. He can say all he likes about being opposed to terrorist acts but he encourages the hostile feeling that underpins this man's behaviour (given of course that this is the man).

This is unpleasantly alike to the murder of Joanne Cox MP in Britain in 2016. Her murderer, Thomas Mair, was quite similar in profile - a loner with a history of erratic behaviour and mental health issues. This being the UK, Mair had to make a gun for himself at home, showing a great deal of malice aforethought - again like this chap with his collection of homemade letter bombs.

I am sure Mair did not form his extremist ultra-nationalist and racist narrative in a vacuum. He will have accessed like minded people and like minded views and fed from them. The internet is an apt instrument for such evil material for anyone who wants to look for it. The only difference is that Mair did not have someone like Mr Trump to act as a vector for such poison.

This is such a sad state of affairs when anyone who has a public profile cannot depend on their own safety same as an anonymous person. It isn't unique to America but rather is a sickness of humanity. We go crazy when we are too alone and we go crazy when we are too crowded together, and such is modern life that we can be simultaneously too lonely and too crowed together.

Thomas Mair got whole of life and I hope they are keeping him in solitary to make him suffer more. If this man is indeed the man who sent these bombs, then throw the book at him. But he is a symptom of a deeper malaise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgSaomupZig I enjoyed Bill Maher's comments on the PC crowd from the 4:28 part of this vid. I posted this on a conservative site and riled those who hate Maher no matter what he says.

I believe that liberal or conservative, however radical we may be on the opinion spectrum, we are at the mercy of a bunch of doddering talking heads who whored themselves out to monied interests so long ago that they no longer have any idea what their souls and principles looked like.

There is a cadre of us liberals in California committed to removing Dianne Feinstein from office, but it appears that most voters will check her box in a lazy and unthinking manner.

Yes, because he recognized old Ted's writing style. Something he didn't think about, like your average criminal thug not thinking about DNA.

You're gonna post a near-book length manifesto in public when the FBI is after you, that is something to think about.

They are actually working on programs now that can recognize people's writing style on the internet and therefore identify them on other forums where they may be known by other names.

This is what's out in public, I expect elite law enforcement and the NSA types have taken it further.

Spooky.

It was a good thing that they caught the Golden State Killer. Hopefully, they can catch these types much sooner. We want them off the streets before they commit dozens of rapes and multiple murders. What is spooky is that they can track a person down with the DNA evidence currently available. With the current rate of research and the presumed expansion of databases, criminals are facing a grim future.

The bad news is that Big Brother is nearly here. The good news is that the vast majority of us are much safer. But we worry about the potential for government abuses. China recently rolled out an AI program with its surveillance cameras that can identify its citizens faces to the point people are getting jaywalking tickets in the mail. 1.3 billion people and apparently they do not all look alike.

This may be a bad time to bring up the inconvenient evidence from multiple psychology experiments that show that free will and conscious choice may be fictions. How all this will play out in the future is anyone's guess.

As I rapidly approach my 70th birthday secure in the notion that, at best, I am in the last quarter of my life, dying is becoming less frightening and can almost be contemplated with gratitude.
