We do, unfortunately. Flies are not a problem, but you've seen nothing like our pitbull mosquitos, unless you live further up than 60N. Luckily, they don't live long. July is the awful month. Don't visit the North in that month, unless you're going to a city, otherwise they'll eat you

Be careful what you wish for....any other country can give your MPs honorary citizenship...and put your government out of business overnight...by your own rules.....! Not the cleverest bit of legislation....and you're going to have a devil of a job altering it. Meanwhile on the moist side of the Tasman, we watch with mild amusement....it's better than a punch and judy show

It should've been a bi-partisan legal vote. Three senate ministers (and counting).
Apparently Eric Abetz was exonerated previously. Was Tony Abbott? I remember not so long ago Abbott refused to provide details https://independentaustralia.net/pol...ng-worse,10624 |

To a point,
Posting this as just an ordinary member and not as a mod, Palo ( bless his communist godless soul ) started this thread as a fun thread, Maybe it's just me but I find this thread not fun when politics gets injected, true I have and wish at times I hadn't

That's not uncommon. Lots of people say they're not into politics, but it's surprising how many of them can't seem to stop themselves from injecting some political aspect into discussions when it suits them. So being selectively interested in politics, or selectively political, is pretty widespread/typically human. It would be unworthy of comment if it were not for the paradoxical contradiction--and perhaps the self-delusion?--of denial in the very process of enacting or putting into practice. Such fetishisations intrigue me. Perhaps they're examples of where we're being most human?
Those who deny interest in politics are being political in and by that very act. They're engaged in the political process of setting the terms for discussion, of saying: we can talk about this but not about that. It's just the same as neoliberals seeking to set the terms for discussion of "the economy" or greens/blues for "the environment" or "defence" or a whole bunch of other such things. To view everything human as inherently political--that is, families, churches, sports clubs, neighbourhoods, towns, etc.--is not to say one wants to talk/read here about LNP, Labor, or any other such matters. It's instead simply a view of humanity/society. |
