Carlo Mollino

Carlo Mollino, avant garde architect, genius furniture designer, obscure photographer, solid race car pilot, aviator, skier, teacher, inventor was born May 6, 1905 in Turin. Eccentric extraordinaire, obsessed with perfection, was focused on creating intense and remarkable pieces of art until the last days of his life. Mollino reflected the dark and magical mood of his town in his work, his apartments were famous for their decoration and his experimental furniture was a must for the rich connoisseurs of the time. His car prototypes and alternative architecture ideas are still inspiration for artists. The Turinese superhero, dark and irresistible, one of last eclectics died August 27, 1973 in Turin.
All Mollino's photographic work can be divided into five different chapters, each very specific chronologically and in the type: I.Photomontages of architecture and the photographs of interiors prepared for architectural journals; II.B/w photography at the turn of 1940 that can be described as having Surrealist tendencies; III.Ski photography for the pubblication of his book on skiing tecnique; IV.Photographs from the second half of the 1950s (1956-1962); IV.Polaroid pictures, female portraits on which Mollino worked throughout the 1960s and until 1973.
