Cash Or Credit
Picture it fellow respected brother members !
Your`s truly ( Although not in any sexual sense so don`t get your understandable hopes up ) standing in a queue for the checkout yesterday at 2.32pm. During one of the hottest days on record , in a packed store with no air conditioning and with eight sad sacks in front of me Could it have been any worse Well yes because i`d just got back from London for a meeting and was wearing a suit But that`s not important right now No ,the heatwave queuing was worse because to a man every bastard in front of me used a credit card Still at least nobody was allowed to pay by a cheque . Since that`d mean they`ll have eaten , processed and passed out everything before paying Hmmmm technically isn`t that shoplifting But i digest Point is due to those "Carders" i had to stand in a stifling queue for 21 minutes Yes it took that long One annoying old dear even paid for two bottles of juice by card When it was finally my turn i got the cheesy half smile/hate look and the words " Thanks for waiting " Yeah waiting , all because nobody in front of me could be bothered withdrawing some cash beforehand So that`s the thread question Do you prefer using cash or the card ? I mean granted for Online purchases or very big price items etc the cards naturally the only way to go. I`m talking about whether you`re " One of those " types who use your card for everything . Hookers aside Or whether you`re like me , preferring to withdraw it from your jeans with a flourish before slapping it firmly into the checkout girls hand So that`s what this thing is about , oh and also if you`ve had any similar experiences to mine and been made to wait an age while some sod fumbles to slide their card in the right way , then struggles to remember their pin , and then once they do mistypes it into the keypad . Says sorry , then does the exact same thing all over again " I mean come on and move it , don`t you know some of us have an actual life to get to , or at least sign in to "

Cash always for me, even for big (expensive) purchases. I just plain like cash.
The worst is when I'm in line behind someone at the supermarket who waits for all their items to be rung in, then be told the total, before they even pull out their checkbook. C'mon, you know you're paying by check, at least fill the damn thing out while you wait. Sometimes it's a woman who has to rummage around forever in her purse just to find the damn checkbook. Aargh!

I'd go with cash but don't forget the the likes of "Fred the Shred" and all other bankers want us to go with plastic for ALL transactions.
Fortunately the UK government has recently told them to have a rethink about getting rid of cheques. The banks always bleat about their costs in clearing cheques and handling cheques and cash but that is the business they are in so let's make the buggers earn the money. |

I use cash when I can for my purchases. Mainly because I don't really want my purchases tracked (I'm not paranoid). When I have to I will use the credit card, but that is mostly for plane tickets, car rental, etc... where they won't accept cash or when using cash gives them another reason to look closely at you.
One thing that annoys me greatly (and should be in the annoy thread) is waiting in line behind people (and I use that term loosely) buying small items with a credit or debit card, usually a soda or coffee. Is it so difficult to carry a couple of dollars on you for small purchases? |

Cash only for me, especially at the supermarket.
Last week I had to stand for ages behind an idiot who was paying for something with a card that cost about £3. Please - you seriously don't have a few quid in your pocket to pay for it?

I prefer a wad in my left front pocket - if feels really nice to put my hand in there and feel that cash. Yum! No money clips or rubber bands for me, just the bills, so soft and tender.....uh, excuse me, gotta go do something......

I buy absolutely everything with my credit card and clear it at the end of every month - this means that my own money stays in my account [ which earns some interest] for as long as possible.
With the current low interest rates it's not a big deal but when rates are at normal levels it's quite a significant sum per month. I agree about old folks and poor people though - for their own good [and everyone elses ] they shouldn't be allowed to have cards |
