You couldn't have failed to notice that the Olympics are finally here-well a few hours to go yet. Funniest shot today has to be Mr Smug Git of the Year-Jeremy Hunt(forever to be associated with an insult as in "what a jeremy hunt!") saying how London was prepared for anything going wrong and then asked to ring his bell...the end of it flies off and nearly hits someone. Brings a whole new meaning to "what a bell-end!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmCtGKwgJ2k
North Korea's Great Leader(I can't remember his name) appears to have got married, and although she is a lovely girl, and probably had all the young females crying their eyes out at not being chosen, you can't help wondering if this poor girl was brainwashed into it OR was it the thought of being married to a god-like being that swayed her thinking?

Well you couldn't have failed to notice that opening ceremony-if you did you are completely in a small minority because you missed a treat-whether you understood it or not, you couldn't help but feel that Britain was summed up in so many different ways and how the industrial revolution helped build Britain, depicted by rising chimneys belching smoke and forging the Olympic rings. Apart from not having anything Shakespearean, no Doctor Who or Sherlock Holmes, let alone Charles Dickens represented, and nothing iconic vehicle-wise(unless you count shire horses, carriages and a Mini Cooper) like a London Cab or Bus, it was bloody brilliant. Best bits for me were Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean(who I don't normally like) with his rendition of 'Chariots of Fire' and the James Bond spoof with Daniel Craig and Her Majesty the Queen-although you would have had to be a complete fool to think that an 80+yr monarch actually would jump from a helicopter but it was a great idea.
All in all I enjoyed it, and let me just say I have been watching opening ceremonies since 1980, and some have bored me rigid, left me scratching my head into the early hours of the morning with WTF moments and some have been very good, but this ranks alongside the best. Another highlight was when the Red Arrows thundered over our house, or near it at least which I was hoping might happen

I didn't see a single second of it - did the chimneys belch Olympic smoke rings? Now that definitely deserves a gold medal!! |

Marilyn Monroe Was Bisexual And Seduced Elizabeth Taylor
Marilyn admitted to sexual encounters with film stars as diverse as Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwyck, Marlene Dietrich and Elizabeth Taylor. She also allegedly seduced a 16-year-old girl who ran her fan club.
Or so a new book says. |

Mike Oldfield is alive "The 70s has been rock star was presumed to be dead. But he stunned the crowd at the opening ceremony of the 2012 games by appearing to be alive." "Problems arose when olympic organisers realised nobody knew who he was." "Mike who made 7 trillion billion pounds in the 70s with his piece Tubular Bells, seemed pleased to have escaped his Norfolk estate. But fell flat when he realised he can only play one thing~Tubular Bells."
"An aging scouser called Paul McCartney had to take his place, and played the usual old crap he usually plays." BB press 2012

I saw it on the news and found the whole thing rather naff to be honest. What on earth has dressing people up as medieval country bumpkins and Victorian mill workers got to do with a major sporting event?

No metal or heavy rock played despite all the great pioneering bands Britain has produced Maiden, Priest, Purple, Sabbath .. and countless others Yet punk and rap were represented. Seems a strange omission. |
