Quote:
The music and lyrics for the theme song, "The Ballad of Gilligan’s Isle", were written by Sherwood Schwartz and George Wyle. One version was used for the first season and another for the second and third. In the original song, the Professor and Mary Ann, originally considered "second-billed co-stars", were referred to as "and the rest," but with the growing popularity of those characters, their names were inserted into the lyrics. The "Gilligan" theme song underwent this one major change thanks to star Bob Denver, who personally went to the studio and asked that Johnson and Wells be added to the theme song's opening credits. When the studio at first refused, saying it would be too expensive to reshoot, Denver insisted, even saying that if Johnson and Wells weren't included, he wanted his name out of the song as well. The studio caved in, and "the Professor and Mary Ann" were added. Wells elaborated that star Denver went to the studio executives to get her and Johnson added to the opening credits. Denver pointed out that his contract stated he could have his name anywhere he wanted in the credits, so they could move it to the end credits along with Johnson and Wells. Wells said Denver never mentioned this to anyone in the cast, and she did not find out about it until years after the show ended.
From the Wikipedia article about the show.

Okay since I have the complete series and am watching episodes as I type I will be posting about some.
In the episode "So Sorry, My Island Now" there is the first visitor to the island. A Japanese mini-sub with one man on board shows up. Never mind that that is impossible for it to get fuel after all this time . I will not go into to much episode detail but you can tell it was done well before the current PC crap. The sailor is played by Vitto Scotti so they didn't even bother using an Asian!!! Plus he is so stereotypical in appearance, thick glasses, buck teeth, and what an accent, boy if you did that today would there be howls!! I still think it was/is funny.

Watching more episodes. It is pretty funny how many things , usually Gilligan of course, hook when fishing in the lagoon. It makes no sense but this is not a series series.

I am starting season two and it is a lot better because they filmed it in color. Boy does it make Mary Ann and Ginger look even better.

Just finished the "Meet the Meteor" episode where a meteor lands on the island (duh). Gilligan makes what I think is s good joke. When the Skipper tells him where meteors come from he says Wow after all the stuff we have been shooting at them they finally shot back.
At the end of this episode Gilligan is a hero, in a screw up way of course, but the hero. Running to stick a lighting rod in the meteor during a lighting storm he stumbles, throws the rod and it sticks in the meteor. Lighting hits it and the meteor blew up.

It seems I am pretty much the only one really posting here. Oh well. I just finished a season three episode called :Topsy-Turvy. Gilligan is his usual bumbling self, gets knocked on the head which causes him to see everything upside down. In an effort to cure him the Professor gives him a berry juice which causes him to see first double then quintuple. Head hunters come on to the island and capture everyone but Gilligan. So Gilligan gets the idea to give the natives the berry juice, they see quintuple and run away. So in this episode Gilligan again saves the day.

They used some footage from that episode in another season one episode, in which Gilligan is keeping a diary about their exploits on the island. I wonder why they needed to recycle footage so soon in the show's run. Limited budget, perhaps?

At the time, it may have been a novelty, but now the clip show has become a staple of the sitcom. Occasionally they are used to refresh the memory of the show. The original WKRP in Cincinnati took a few months to find a stable time slot. When it did, they put together a clip show to reintroduce the viewers to the show.

I think a clip show is like a live album or greatest hits package to a band. It fulfills the contract with little or no effort on their part.
