I have no idea which of these songs I actually heard first. They just sort of occupy the same place in my memories. My mom and dad always had the radio playing. I would guess that I was either three or four years old, so 1976 or 1977.
Harry Nilsson - Everybody's Talkin' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AzEY6ZqkuE Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0t66xvMdH0

Lobo - Me & You & A Dog Named Boo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fgGNZYR5QM Apparantly as a very young kid, I kept asking my parents to play "Dog named Boo" , so I class this as the first song that I remember. I think I must have heard it on the radio 'cause my parents had to go and buy the record to shut me up! |

I remember Patti Paige's "How Much Is That Doggie in the Window" (1953, I was 4 or 5) pretty well,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AkLE4X-bbU but my parents had a 78 record player that got a lot of use, and something they might have played around Christmas like "The Nutcracker Suite" might have registered sooner. |
