Yes, I know they are from YouTube which doesn't allow nudity, but I have posted these to give an idea of the purpose of this thread, in regards to music, outfit and performance.

I hate to shoot all this down and excellent as these clips maybe its not traditional striptease in the real sense-this is Burlesque-a lot more subtle, classy and whilst being immensely popular thanks to the likes of Dita von Teese and Immodesty Blaise(in this country) its not striptease as we might have seen on tv or in film so in a way you are right that the plot has been lost a bit, but you've only illustrated how the two mediums are mixed up-but on the plus side some sterling clips posted.

A quick look at the Get 'em Off film - search under Baimfilms - shows it was made in 1976. That would have been about the time when there were still little sketches and the costumes meant something, the music was real brassy stuff, but full nudity was by now allowed.

Here's a bit of the script - Strippers have motto's like:
'Make 'em wait and 'Don't be too eager'
'Give Hell'
'Make them go dry at the mouth'
'Freeze to marble in their seats'
'Give them a create of blink in case they miss something'
'Make them beg with their eyes and howl like wolves under a full moon'
After all, they have come here to have a good time. The tease is the thing; Men in a hurry shouldn't go to strip clubs. For every customer who loses his cool and shouts 'Get It Off!' the stripper is ready with the answer "Can't You See Anything Yet?'

The first one is a real firelighter - you can't beat The Stripper for raunch, the stage setting is perfect, the only problem with the lady's costume is that she doesn't take every last bit off - pity about the pasties - but what she does take off she does with fantastically exaggerated movements, yum.

The birthday cake girl starts off in a shimmering gown that ought to satisfy the most devoted of strip fans. Miss Roxy performs to more golden classic striptease music and the way she tugs off her second glove is just painful!

There seems to be differing views about what is traditional striptease. Surely the ideal is this kind of act, with much teasing, bra twirling and throwing around of clothes as they come off one by one. The only complaint I have is that I want to see these performers end up fully, totally, satisfyingly nude. Go back far enough and, though they didn't happen too often, there were club acts which can only be described as fully nude burlesque-style striptease. Were any put onto film?

I'd be very interested in seeing more about burlesque versus striptease as clearly there are some differences of opinion! For now here's a clip showing Ginger Valentine's jazzy, brassy, big time act. Again not nude, shame, but what a girl. Get 'em off!

..and the debate rages on! I'm not sure exactly where I stand on such matters myself (I bow to the superior knowledge of others on the subject)....but I am very drawn to Ginger Valentine's alluring style...as put by ecdysiastic, this is very much up my street...glamorous, sassy, slow, seductive, fun...and in my humble opinion, extremely sexy- maybe because nudity is always held tantalisingly at a distance?

Have a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jmUzwswAgg nice girl eh? well believe it or not is a porn star from Italy called Roberta Missoni(aka Roberta Gemma) stick with it, it gets better but it illustrates one thing that separates Ginger Valentine from her-she won't 'get em out'-all Burlesque dancers are just ordinary girls who want to show off and they know that by wearing tassels on their nipples they are just on the borderline of decent and they get away with more and more outrageous moves. Simply put, a stripper will go all the way, a burlesque dancer won't-unless you count Dita von Teese but in her case she is a model that already done nude stuff and in the case of Roberta Missoni, she has done hardcore porn. Do a search for her via Google for her pictures and videoclips-she is dynamite stuff.

No time now to watch the show but keep 'em coming! Wonderful stuff, shows how wide a subject this thrilling spectacle is. I want to rejoin the debate in light of some of the comments made but can't do so right now. It's striptease but why isn't it burlesque? I think it's the way the word is used nowadays that makes people think it's one or the other.

Before 1968 if you wanted to see nude women on stage (like at the Windmill) you had to be content with them not moving. If you wanted to see them move you had to go to a strip club - as a private club the rules were different. Even then it was strip to g-string only.

Then things changed. There's a lot about this period in Murray Goldstein's Naked Jungle and Paul Willetts' Members Only. Murray Goldstein ran the Maxim club and as he tells it was there, apparently, that Linda first performed a stunning piece of theatre" in which she showed "her secret delights."

It was theatre. Okay, the big band had been replaced by tapes but let me recall Bo-Peep's act with her little woolly sheep and her pink gingham dress getting thoroughly naked on stage. Little teaser, she would peel her stockings right down then roll them up again before peeling them down again, this time right off. (baldbeaver - I like 'em peeled off and I like 'em left on, it all adds to the variety).

Or the pair of cancan girls. Did they have knickers underneath those delicious frilly dresses? Yes, well to start with! Did they manage to get absolutely everything off during their act Of course they did. How about Miss X who had to sit in that smart blouse and tight skirt typing away on stage as her voice of her boss told her to run along and get a present for his girlfriend? How did she manage to persuade him that she was the one he really wanted? Simple, strip everything off to rousing music and parade nudely until she caught his attention.

Ballet dancers, French tarts, beachball girls, fairytale princesses, school marms, air hostesses, flamenco dancers, they all did it on stage to raunchy, brassy music and they took every last stitch off. They weren't shy about dancing in the buff nor did they hide anything.

The good strip clubs turned themselves into "striptease theatres." True, standards eventually declined and the routines slowly evolved into today's bored undressing, pole dancing and even not taking everything off. But it was theatrical, it was burlesque, it was striptease. Maybe burlesque modern-style will eventually get to the stage when we get the tease, we get the strip, we get the kind of traditional striptease that had us begging for more!.

Let's hope this will inspire some more replies and "finds." It's a fascinating debate... I'll see if I can come up with some more clips - keep 'em coming!
