However a so called top PL team should be able to put out a mix of A and B sides and still beat a bottom third Championship side. Liverpool seem to be doing what Arsenal ate famous for and that is being knocked out of every competition in the new year. Out of two cups and possibly soon out of the top 4, its not looking good for them. I guess we will see over the next few weeks how good a manager Klopp really is. So far he is not showing much in terms of turning things around. There were a few calls for his head after the 2 previous games where they lost. Of course its unlikely to be true fans but after today that number may increase.
In all fairness to klopp he had 3/4 seasons of transfer blunders to try and turn around quickly

Home & away form says they were 2nd to Chelsea before the new year hell began

Liverpool of the past few seasons seem to build their game plan around 1 key player and when hes not playing they look inept..its was Suarez under Dalglish & Rodgers

Now it would appear to be Sadio Mane - away at the African Nations cup since january 2
which coincided with their form disappearing

The difference was made pretty clear
- with him they beat Arsenal away 4-3
- without him they lost to Burnley away 2-0 the next game

Dimitri Payet: West Ham agree £25m fee to sell France international to Marseille.

Hammers manager Slaven Bilic said earlier this month that Payet did not want to play for the club, but added the 29-year-old would not be sold.

But, after rejecting two bids from Marseille and signing Robert Snodgrass, West Ham have decided to sell the France international

Payet joined West Ham from Marseille for £10.7m in June 2015.

The Dauphin will return to OM for £25 mill, although rumours persist if we don't get the readies, he will go nowhere, as we want some transfer activity prior to the witching hour on Tuesday.

Oh yeah its a long term job to turn Liverpool into league winners that is for sure. As you say he has a lot of mistakes to rectify and that includes the major issue which is as I said in depth quality. Whereas the bigger sides in the PL and all around Europe can put out a strong B team Liverpool at this moment cannot. A few injuries and they struggle to put out a top quality A side. Klopp does need time but needing time and getting time are not always compatible when it comes to club owners. A couple of seasons out of the CL and the owners may get antsy. This is where you need an owners who knows the game. Someone who will see that there is no quick fix. Someone who sees the whole picture. I guess we will see over the next few months what happens.

Sutton deserved to go through and well done to them. I suspect also a few punters come up trumps with a cheeky bet today on them beating Leeds. There are always a few who take what many would call stupid bets. Look at all those that won when Leicester won the PL.

I like Klopp, he has done wonders for Liverpool BUT you have to take the FA Cup a lot more seriously than he did, starting with 9 different players some of them youngsters is not the way to get through the rounds especially the 4th round. All managers have found this out the hard way from Ferguson to Mourinho and Wenger to Pochetino - you MUST play a full-strength squad if you want to advance OR you're going to lose or scrape through if you're lucky. I don't always agree with Chris Waddle but he is right as our other pundits that mentioned it.

Chelsea and Man Utd both made 9 changes with Arsenal resting most of the first XI and all progressed. The idea of having a 25 man squad is to get through the season and not running your best into the ground. Unfortunately for Liverpool the back ups are not that good and any team wanting the title needs strength in depth and the ability to dig out a result.

Mixed views!!!

Spurs took the p**s with their team selection for the FA Cup.
BUT and a big but, I wouldn't have witnessed one of the best Cup ties in my 55 years watching Spurs!!

I think if they had have lost it would have been the 'worst' result in their history????

Unless somebody knows otherwise

Well its official Payet has gone for £25m. Apparently Sullivan wanted him to stay to make an example out of him. However Bilic wanted him gone for squad unity.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38675958

My view has always been the same. If a player wants out then if the money is right get rid of them. No point having a player who is a liability at the club, who wont train or give 100% for fear of injury ruining a potential move. Better to ship them out and replace them. I know it means the player has the power to a degree but if you end up with a split squad its even more damaging to the club.

Did Cologne not give you a bit of a roasting in the 90's and Derby in 76 or do they not count.

The only FA cup game I can think of was Norwich at the end of the fifities, something of a shock back then.

Any fingernails left?
