Thank you FA for appointing that yes man Southgate to the role of manager. I can now enjoy the next 4 years not getting stressed watching England play football. I will now be able to use that time in a more constructive way. I had hoped that the FA would have started fresh and brought in someone to shake things up. However once again they have proven how inept they are by appointing someone who has a piss poor management record. Someone who is not going to shake things up or improve the side. However he is a yes man so Rooney will likely stay captain and be picked each and every game even when in poor form. So the FA will be happy as their golden boy will continue to play. I of course maybe wrong and he maybe the best manager ever. However I am thinking its more likely nothing will change and we will continue to do poorly and embarrass ourselves. So as I said at least thanks to the FA I won't be watching England so no stress for me.

NO !...You are correct snowy.
Don't waiver

Gareth is a Manager without ANY medals, to show the riff-raff when they ask?

He's not the Messiah...but he is a Good Boy.
Well Mannered.
Brought up correctly.
Probably regards getting excited as sinful.

I blame his mother, even though she gave him stick when he missed the Penalty that put England OUT !
Stuart P took years of ridicule for missing his penalty...Gareth just ambled along.
A Golden Child, chosen years ago by those who applaud manners and servitude, forelock touching and gratitude.

THE FA.

Clough was once interviewed and he scared them to death. No Job.

Their shortlist after Roy H included Bruce, Gareth and Allardyce.
The STATS proved Alladyce was the only true choice from that limited and inept trio of under-achievers.
If BFS wasn't so bloomin' greedy...jeez....
~ although, to be fair to BFS, his eyes may have been bulging during the entrapment, but he kept saying that they would have to
"clear it with my bosses"...but went on to brag about how useless their RULES were...that was his demise - imo - his lack of respect to his "betters" (The FA)

.............

I think there may have been 2 Camps in the FA.
One for the Golden Child and one for the STATTS of Allardyce and Bruce

When BFS was entrapped and held out in public as a money-grabbing-criminal, the other Camp won.
Gareth couldn't have been appointed over BFS or Bruce...there was no logic nor reason for a failed England U21 manager with a disastrous League record to be appointed.

BFS NEVER took a penny, in bribes nor a bung.
As England Manager he could rake in a fair bit on the Lecture/Coaching circuit in his off-duty days ~ but as he said, it would have to be cleared with his bosses. That wasn't enough to sack him.

The Eriksson entrapment, that took 6 months of 'Fake-Sheiks' was far more serious. But Sven walked away lily-white because of the 'entrapment'.
BFS didn't, because ~ IMO ~ he ridiculed his bosses and their inept Rules.
That killed him, and that allowed the Golden Mouse to escape to glory.

Steve Bruce certainly has a better record than Gareth, but he is being paid far more ...NOW...by the insane Chinese owner of Villa than Gareth's paltry £2million py.

Brucie and BFS would, by their make-up and History...have shook the England squad sideways.
They are both bruff n tuff.

Gareth would be happy to attend polite and genteel tea-parties with Wayne at his fortress, but would leave before the boxing began.

I know I go on a bit...but this is England

Was England....we'll get to Russia, obviously, we got an easy ticket.

For a wimp who thought Eriksson didn't 'inspire' players ~~~ I can't bloomin wait for "Nice-Boy Unchained"

It might be an idea for England to produce enough international class players to make up a competitive side before you start whingeing about the manager. No England manager since Alf Ramsey has had the tools to work with.

Until the PL money stops flowing in the billions, the home nations will suffer from lack of talent coming through, when that days comes, maybe homegrown players will get more opportunities at a younger age, instead of being farmed out to feeder clubs.

Ramsey did not pick the best players, but an XI who played as a team and but for a bottle of beer might have repeated the feat in 70.

Revie was the wrong man, Greenwood far too cautious, perhaps it might have been different if Keegan and Brooking had been fit. Robson undone by the Hand of God and a missed opportunity, then German penalties. Taylor way out of his depth, Venables meets German Penalties.
Hoddle had an idea and the players, just lost the plot.
Sven had the golden generation, but unfortunately he was a wet lettuce.
Since then its been a continual downward spiral and we are almost at rock bottom
Not sure if Southgate is the answer and we also need to break away from the usual suspects, with a view to the lower half of the Prem and even the Championship.
The other problem is PL status and clubs will not risk youth while in search of the title and a European adventure or even just staying up.

Had a 'very' busy November football wise as these pictures show.
First one is Wembley...lost to Leverkusen, then the next ones are from Monaco...lost again, stayed in Nice though. Then it was Stamford Bridge...lost again!!!

Then the last two are Dagenham & Redbridge versus Torquay...and guess what I supported the losing team there as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whingeing is good for the soul.

Blimey

This is a football thread !

Most of me surfing is done on VEF and Vee and dozens of football forums.

Other than the two film sites, there does seem to be a genuine consensus about Gareth. From fans on many clubs, he is not welcome at all.
Some are fair, and say, "Let's Wait".... but none, anywhere I've read, has said he was a good appointment.

The ink-media are starting from their usual position, of cautious support of the FAs choice. But we all know the ink-media.
One slip and he's a like a dodo.
And the FA have a 4 year, quite cheap, contract to buy-out...and perhaps they may actually interview other candidates next time.
And perhaps their interview panel may not include a sports-physcologist, but a bloomin physchiatrist.

To vet the Panel.

Sorry cjm, but whingeing is what one does in football, between praise and despair, a good whinge clears the sinuses
