The Aussy Government has decided to cock block what they call Pirate Sites.
I thought a VPN would get around this but sadly the torrent site I'm trying to access is still blocked.
Does anyone know why a VPN won't work to unblock the site?
I thought it disguised my location but apparently not.

Might not be a block via your ISP if a VPN cant access it

You would need a VPN provider that is located somewhere that hasn't implemented blocks, I think USA would still be ok as I don't think they have blocked torrent sites yet.

I tried 3 different VPN's surely one of them was somewhere free.

Are you using free VPNs? What three have you tried?

Also, if you want to give me a site or two you have been blocked from, I'll log onto an Aus server with my VPN and tell you if it let me through.

not sure about any others as i tend to delete programs that don't work as expected.
here is just one link that is blocked though there are plenty of torrent sites that still work. Hopefully once the expensive add campaign runs down they will lose interest.

I can access that domain but as I'm currently downloading something I can't try with an Aus server yet, I will do so later and tell you what the result is. However, this may help in this instance as they may not have blocked the other one they list:

1337x main domain is 1337x.to, if this domain is blocked for you try to use 1337x.st.

OK, so I attempted to log on to https://1337x.to/ with my VPN's Australia servers, one in Sydney the other located in Melbourne.

The Sydney server wouldn't connect because the 1337x site has blocked the IP range from there - something that does happen with VPNs.

I was able to log onto it through the Melbourne server with no issues at all, so Australia-based VPN servers are quite capable of masking and encrypting sufficiently well to defeat the block.
