deleting posts

What happens if I delete the first post (my own post) in a thread? I read somewhere that the whole thread will get screwed up. Is that so?

I reckon the entire thread would just get deleted rather than 'screwed up' but you can model the effect of that in the test forum:

i've been editing them to say links are dead! and leaving it to the mods to do the rest!

Sorry mods! won't be leaving my trash around anymore for you to clean up!

When you (as member) delete the post, then it´s not a deletion in the true sense of the meaning. It is just taken away from the "visible" part of the forum and the post following yours gets automatically on first place then.

Mods can either restore your self-deleted post or move it to anywhere else in a section that only Mods have access to. (Moderators´ Trash-Bin)

All this happens in the background and you don´t need to worry about..

On the other hand, if Mods do (hard-)delete the very first post of a thread, then the thread is indeed entirely gone. But Mods know about that danger and take minutious care.

We as members can´t do anything wrong (related to that very particular issue

)

No apologies necessary - due to the quirks of the forum software it actually creates more problems for the mods if you delete your own posts; the far more helpful thing to do is just what you have been doing - editing them to ask that they be deleted. Thanks for caring.
