Your post reminded me of something I heard the other day.
Worldwide the number of people who die every day because they got infected by a super bug while in the hospital equals 4 fully loaded 747 jets. In 2014 over 700,000 people died and it is predicted to climb to 10,000,000 by 2050 if a solution can't be found. That would make it the number one killer ahead of cancer, heart disease, war, famine you name it. E. coli and salmonella are the most resistant and the deadliest. Every time a new drug is introduced the bacteria adapt and become stronger and harder to treat.
Many doctors feel that over prescribing antibiotics has been a major contributor. They also feel adding antibacterials to all types of soaps and cleaners and these products finding their way into water supplies has helped the bacteria develop their resistance.
