The "Sad Puppies" campaign was initially conceived as a push-back against rabid SJW's attempting to politicize the awards.
It is essentially the same as the gamer-gate thing, when game designers pushed back against radfems trying to impose their BS agenda on video games.

The USA is celebrating having more guns in private owners possession than it has people, a first in human history, and another beacon for freedom.

And as those pictures show SOMETHING needs to be done about your gun laws - the sad thing is that no-one is brave enough to take on the N.R.A. who have more power than they need. I wonder though if one of their kids were killed by a gun whether they would change their opinion? I doubt it somehow. Making it look glamourous or somewhat cool is also not helping either.

The NRA's power is derived from it's membership. Who are you to say that a given organization has "more power than it needs?" You seem to be suggesting that the government should have even more power, to allow it to cut the NRA down to size, and if there is one group in the USA that already has "more power than it needs", it's the federal government.

If one of their kids were "killed by a gun", no doubt the family would be smart enough to know that the kid was actually killed by a person.

As to whether it looks cool or glamorous, that's in the eye of the beholder.

In the local news this morning they were talking about how any place locally that sold guns especially ones easily concealed were all sold out , most of the buyers were middle aged women and small business owners , hopefully these people will get instruction on gun safety in Arizona it is legal to carry firearms concealed with out a permit , we have the most liberal guns laws in the US more than any other state , I hope we go back to having people get a concealment permit because then people had to have gun safety classes to get one .

Vermont is also a constitutional carry state that doesn't require a permit.
While that may seem surprising in a north east state, I figure it's because there isn't a very big urban population there. States with very large urban populations tend to have policy shaped by the city dwellers, much to the chagrin of the rural population. This even leads to economic and ecological catastrophe, like in California, with it's water and smelt conservation legislation.

As long as they don't go about committing crimes, I have no problem with black (or white, or red, or yellow...) militias.

No I am not suggesting that at all. I was avoiding the obvious but now I will say it. Your gun laws are a joke, allowing people to openly move about in public with a holster or rifle? in ANY civilised society this wrong - this is the 21st century and modern cities/towns not 18th century Western cowboy towns! - Obama wanted to do a lot, as part of his legacy as President but more often than not found his hands were tied thanks to the senators who have the support of the NRA. I am afraid that young people in this country find guns & knives cool thanks in part to American films and television - especially where gangs are concerned. I wish they didn't. London is a lot safer than many US cities BUT the scourge of the young seems to be knives rather than guns - but that is because we have some of the strictest gun laws in Europe and the world.

Obama's hands were tied by the second amendment, not the NRA. His oath of office states he is to "Uphold the Constitution", and that includes the second amendment.

As to whether the US gun laws are a joke, that, too, is in the eye of the beholder. On this side of the pond, we consider laws against carrying swiss army knives with locking blades a joke.
