Columbus & Calgary kept up their what are really forlorn hopes for the last two wild card spots with wins last night.

Winnipeg have the President's Trophy for safekeeping. Kucherov with three points last night might sneak the individual points race.

A little look at Ovechkin & Gretzky's careers so far. Wayne's scoring certainly declined as defensive systems improved & netminders started to get bigger & adopt the butterfly.

Ovechkin has been remarkably consistent throughout. He notched 896 last night although the Caps seem to be already focusing on the playoffs losing 4-1 to the Blue Jackets who are chasing that elusive dream of getting to the playoff round again.

Demidov certainly made an impression last night on his debut. The anticipation at Bell Centre was off the charts & Demidov obliged with a goal & assist & should have had more assists.

Newhook missed another great chance off a feed on the rush. The link up between Demidov & Hutson on the PP unit was also excellent. Controlled possession. His backchecking is on & off though something he might need to work on.

Chicago are not in great shape & will rue along with Anaheim passing up on Demidov. They could potentially have had Demidov & Bedard together while Montreal could have had Demidov & Michkov together but as mentioned went for Reinbacher.

Chicago does have depth defensively but it's still an inexperienced core despite it's potential. Rinzel is a junior gold medallist with Team USA & Levshunov has been showing up very well too along with several others in the pipeline.

Calgary & Columbus still remain in the race for the wild cards after Montreal's OT loss.

Still can't believe Ovi scoring 44 at his age. That is like Phil Mickelson winning the PGA at age 50 like he did

Ovi should be in the NHL another 6 yrs at his pace
