I'll agree with this. You got to realize it is more important to make a profitable movie than a great movie which is why remakes are so popular. Foreign films trouble is that American audiences have trouble relating to accents or languages.

Yeah...
Apart the Dutch and Flamish ones... impossible to translate.

We still have to find job for non-working people.

Edit: I don't think that we dub Eastern European and Oriental films... Really.
We mainly translate popular Italian (co-produced) and English spoken films.

Why in 70's and 80's films and television did characters in offices or other places want to "buy you a cup of caw fee " but not actually buy it? Was this just a stock expression like "ball-park figure" which I've never quite understood let alone why many expressions stem from baseball. Cheers.

In most offices the coffee is free. To buy some one a cup is inviting them to have a chat.
Ball parks are very large so a ball park estimate is basically a wild ass guess.

From the 1870s until the 1970s, baseball was truly our national game. American boys (and some girls) spent much of their free time playing some variant of the game, or even just playing catch, i.e., tossing the ball around. From the 1890s through the 1950s, professional baseball was avidly followed. In many ways, baseball has been kind of a glue. My two brothers are 4 and 13 years younger. I have always been a bookworm and intellectual. The middle brother is an accomplished jazz guitarist with a day job in pest control. The youngest is a millwright. We all played baseball growing up and are fans of the San Francisco Giants. Baseball gives us a common ground in which to connect.

In a big, ethnically diverse country like the United States, we need every common ground of connection we can find.

Another thing that impressed me a lot in American films, when two people speak together on phone, at the end of the conversation, they NEVER say "goodbye" or "bye" to end the conversation.

Does it represent the way that you end your phone conversation in the real life?

[...].
I've a question too to that baseball vs. football.

We are having a problem with more or less (growing I think) hooliganism in the most European countries in the case of football (soccer) - possibly you have heard about. Those idiots are ruining this game to others, just normal football-fans.

At my information baseball in the US is more a sport for the whole family, if they are interested in. So I've heard.

I've to admit, I've no clue of football and neither baseball because I'm not interested in both sports. But I saw that problem in reports all over Europe.
:head-shaking:

Are those kind of hooliganism problems also known in the US ?

I can't reply about football, basketball and baseball, but when I intensively followed NHL, I read and watched that they got some troubles with rioters after some games.
