I have a friend who manned listening posts in Germany during the Cold War. He reported that the Russian soldiers spent much time discussing how much the East German girls were putting out for them. I guess the novel has world wide attraction. An American acquaintenance of mine recently had a very enjoyable trip to Slovenia and Croatia.

I've noticed a few Englishmen that have been in that area and I have to suggest they steer clear of most of this area as there really isn't much of anything there (unless you like flat prairies). But, if your going to be in the area, do visit Glacier National Park as it really is something to behold. Although, if you actually want to see glaciers, you'd better do it quick as they'll be gone in the next few years. Quote:

An aside, the climate along the Rocky Mountain Front from a little south of the Blackfeet Reservation to some miles north of the Canadian border is the most extreme climate in the world, by which they mean that it consistently gets hotter than 100 degrees fahrenheit (38 c) in the summer and consistently gets to -40 fahrenheit (-40 c) or lower in the winter.

Don't know if you've been there but it really is an interesting area. The Blackfeet I met love the area but are still ticked the US ripped off the National Park. But the national park is gorgeous. Probably the most beautiful I've seen (at least for now). Started off by driving along the foot of the mountains in an area that was really wet. Then drove up into the park and was amazed. Wish I had more time but, hopefully, will get to finish that trip in the next few years. |

Sorry Savage I wasn't talking about you when I used the draft dodger phrase, it was good old Bill!
98 .. Sadly won't be going again, but on other trips we did have a good look at the country around Banff and Jaspar in Canada. Lake Louise is gorgeous, and the road between the two towns is a great drive. One thing we were very impressed with was a visitor centre at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. |

I watched the original Independence Day film (ID4) last night and in the sequence when they are trying to destroy one of the main alien craft they kept yelling out Eagle 1 Fox 2 - okay I get you name planes after birds but why are missiles called FOX, and is this done in reality, if so what do they call them?
