Well (Given my current fascination with spectacularly fine actress Theresa Palmer ) I've checked out two movies with her in today ,

Is about an insurance fraud sort of reward money scam that goes ten kinds of wrong , in a small town full of characters.
Characters we can sense are interesting. Could be interesting. Should have been and would have made this movie something worth remembering. Only that doesn't happen. Off the top of my head there are six characters who with the right written platform might have enriched this dull affair no end.
Honestly I`d have preferred to see and learn more about them , than the main plot itself.
Unfortunately the well known names in the cast aren't allowed to act as we know they all can. That`s purely down to a bare bones script though and not a lot of originality from the director.
Plus , and it has to be said.
This star of the show who is about as convincing as a warped plank of wood.

Following that I checked out this ,

An outstandingly well acted , well scripted , well directed mystery thriller that keeps you guessing . Concerning a foursome of friends who go out to Vietnam for a vacation , yet only three of them come back.

The Sweeney (2012)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0857190/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuYj4q7s8rc

A rehash of the classic 1970's cop show with Ray Winstone as Jack Regan and Plan B (who was the first choice ???) as George Carter.
The Sweeney being Cockney rhyming slang for Sweeney Todd the hardnuts that form the Police "Flying Squad"
Great cast but it has massive shoes to try to fill and although the story is decent enough it lives in the shadow of the original show and the two earlier films

The Great Dictator (1940) - The great Charlie Chaplin

Funny, satirical and brave (given the times in which it was made)

The Globe scene, choreographed to the prelude of Richard Wagners Opera, 'Lohengrin' is a particular work of genius :-

An aspiring want to be professional standup , who keeps good natured although he sees less funny others getting the chances he doesn't. Plus has to deal with the usual real life pressures we all do , and a family who are forever trying to strong arm him into an arranged marriage. Meets a kooky girl that gets him and who he clicks with.

Just as this positive turn about in his love life arises though the girl in question falls into a coma.

I`m saying no more other than I give this great movie a resounding triple three

A few days of work and chilling out to a few movies, starting with

The Ring 2 (2005)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0377109/

I love the original Japanese films but am watching the US version with Naomi Watts and her creepy child, just when she thinks it's all over she hears about a student who has died in mysterious circumstances and finds that like most Rings it has come full circle

Just got the DVD of this so am reliving the adventure

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3896198/

SPOILERS

The opening action scene with the Guardians taking on an energy eating space beast whilst baby Groot dances to the magnificent sound of ELO's Mr Blue Sky sets the film up nicely as a mixture of humour and action.
The film centres on the origin of Star-Lord and his father who is revealed to be EGO (Kurt Russell) who is a living planet in the comics.
I'm watching it now having read a few extra bits of information about some of the minor background characters from the comics I may have missed at the initial viewing.

Default 6 Days (SAS movie on the Iranian Embassy Siege)

6 Days (SAS movie on the Iranian Embassy Siege)

Competent portrayal of the events back in 1980 but to be honest, a bit routine in its pacing with regrettably a mild sense of the drama.

Any sense of the kind of pressure of the situation by the hostages and negotiators was/is better illustrated in the many, many documentaries and on YT. Which is a shame.

I would urge anyone interested in this not to expect too much.

5.5/10
