My southside neighborhood of Chicago got a total of 3 inches on Monday and then on Tuesday another 2.5 inches accompanied by 35 mph winds off the lake. The weather men said the Tuesday snow was mostly "lake effect" snow. The southeast shore of Lake Michigan often gets this phenomena. It means there is a low pressure system accompanied by high winds and a line of snow bearing clouds that go down Lake Michigan from north to south. As the snow drops the wind blows it almost horizontally inland for almost 3 miles. In just a few days temperatures will be in the 40's which should melt everything.

Wrong again! When having gone out around mid-afternoon to clean off my car and do a bit of shoveling there was barely a few puffs of occasional wind.

News sites, owned by Television Networks, pretending that some inane reality TV show that, purely by coincidence I'm sure, shows on their network, is news.

I know it's old hat top many but Windows 10 ---- WTF
It's taken ages to load up my PC and, I had to load MS Office details up 4 times before it worked. I've only just figured out how to view an external drive , windows 7 brought them up easily under My Computer Windows 10 has them hidden under Disk Management I'll get used to it over time but first impressions last

Today, Sky (the company) has annoyed me. I received an unsolicited letter from them this morning advertising their services which I will never, ever use or subscribe to. I didn't actually open the letter because I've had identical letters from them before and knew what was inside. The things that actually annoyed me about this letter were that, apart from a return address in (probably deliberately) very very small print on the back of the envelope, there is no indication that it's from Sky on the outside. Secondly, the style of envelope (window envelope) and the way they print the address, makes the letter look very 'official'. Almost as if it's some kind of bill or utility letter so anyone could easily think that it was important and better be opened and read immediately. I didn't fall for it though and wrote RTS in thick marker pen across the front. I'll post it back to the buggers next time I go out.

Win 7, Win 10, et al: I miss my old XP "file explorer", which was very flexible. A friend told me about xyplorer, a util that retains much of the functionality. The vendor has stopped producing the free version, but the last free version is archived at their site. There's also a pay version, which I haven't used. Shouldn't be hard to find if you le Goog it.
