One thing I like to do when watching any of the Star Wars movies is to try to translate what R2 is saying. For instance, when 3PO bumps into R2 on Jabba's sail barge:

3PO: R2, what are you doing here?
R2: Serving drinks goldenrod, what's it look like?

I like to think R2 is snarky, to offset 3PO's prissiness.

I always see Them as a gay couple,and C3PO is definitely the bottom.

Way too much thought gone into this by some, can we just agree that they are asexual?

They're freakin metal (if they exist at all)

But Antony Daniels is as bent as scrapyard

and the guy who played R2, Kenny Baker, no doubt had a lot of charm & put it about as much as he could

BTW the original Marvin was much better -

That is tough. Not even jedis can do that. He is Mr. reliable, Mr cool, Mr can do. He always comes through in the clutch...is always calm, always thinking of the next move to help save the day, whether it is fixing the warp drive in time, saving 3PO from Salacious Crumb who is ripping his eye out, flinging Luke an absolute 150 yard strike to deliver Luke's lightsaber at *EXACTLY* the right height and speed to save the day.

When he gets hit, he doesn't whine and cry, like 3PO...he just shuts up and takes it. You hear him shriek when he gets hit by a friggin laser from a Tie Fighter...in the head. That's it...a shriek of pain, but nothing else. How bad does it hurt to get shot in the head by a high energy spacecraft mounted laser cannon? Alot.
That's it, he shuts down, he is singed, torn up, dinged, scratched, dented...he doesn't complain, and waits till they repair and reboot him, then he is shiny, good as new, repaired, and he knew they'd fix him up and he'd be back online, in action soon, fighting along bravely at the head of the rebellion to get rid of those imperial dicks. R2 is *ALWAYS* on a mission, and he is always going to come through and he knows it.

R2 is the man. R2 is Jimmy Cagney.
