You have to put the words of Marx into the context of the story.
It's an answer to a book written by another German philosopher called : Bruno Bauer on claims of German Jews.
Marx said to the German Jews that they have to emancipate themselves from their religion (as the Christians, the Muslims, etc...), like that they will themselves from rabbins, priests, imams, etc..., and emancipate themselves from fears they have no proofs that they really exist.


BUT for sure, some narrow-minded wrote texts without understanding that Marx was on the first step to create the philosophy of the "free man" (If you prefer: "You are your own President").
