For me it would have to be Battle of the River Plate.

The original was great drama but the limitations of technology where occasionally present during the battle scenes (e.g. the real HMS Cumberland was used in the film but had been converted to a training ship after WW2 and her armament was conspicuously absent). Some judicious use of CGI would make a great spectacle!

It's funny you should say that because I'd always thought this too or that there's something about CGI where somehow you just 'know' it's fake. An example was when I was looking at a simulation of two of Elon Musk's rockets successfully touching down after returning to Earth. I watched it & thought 'Do they expect us to believe that's real? It's too perfect, they even landed in perfect unison.' - Then I discovered that what I was seeing was real! Sometimes we see what we believe we must be seeing! You know CGI has simply become too good when something like that causes you to doubt your own doubts!
