From what I understand and have been told certain areas of Florida are no picnic either, I think the Miami and nearby areas.
Some people I know who had moved to Florida's Miami area eventually packed up and moved back here, being fed up with the crime rate, and being unable and afraid to take evening walks with the family for fear of being mugged, some of which the victims having only several dollars in their pockets!

There are two things about Florida which seldom make the evening news ... crime reports and the actual temperatures for fear of discouraging tourism, and as most know Florida is a popular tourist State.

I think much of Miami and its nearby area's problems began when Castro emptied Puerrto Rico's prisons having housed many hardened criminals. Some branched out of Miami, but there are still a multitude of other towns and areas in Florida where one can feel relatively safe from the crime and riffraff.

What annoys me the most ?

Today it was boredom believe it or not
I'm supposed to be at work right now , but , Umm I kind of got suspended for 1 roster without pay .. my own fault, too many smart ass comments

But it's a gift in not being there for 1 roster but Mrs already working, I had nothing planned .... so I watched TV, all day got bored with an hour and still have 2 days of zero plans plus cold and wet tomorrow

It's tough being me

Chicago is not safe to walk in at any hour. Every type of criminal you can think of lives here. Any day I might leave the relative safety of my apartment I see panhandlers, dudes just hanging around on street corners waiting for someone to harass or rob at gun or knifepoint. There are hundreds of cars stolen off the sreets every day, burglaries, rapes, shootings, random shootings by gangs, vandalism, etc. The same thing happens in all of America big and small cities.

. No, both of you would be beaten and raped and then picked up in a van and buried somewhere so the cops couldn't find and identify you.

Sorry, trails. Couldn't resist the spelling error. Many of our cities have predators on the streets. I am happy that Oakland is improving as are many major cities. I expect Oakland to continue to improve as it continues to gentrify and the homeless get tired of sleeping on concrete and being forced to relocate periodically.

Places like Detroit, St. Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans, and Cleveland are really bad. There is a lot of variance in lists, but it is surprising to see that Chicago is seemingly less violent than Milwaukee and Minneapolis. But it is still not fun hearing gunfire and reading about shootings every weekend. Still, few are in my neighborhood anymore. I really miss being able to grocery shop without being accosted by several aggressive panhandlers.

It is annoying that one cannot shoot some of these panhandlers.

We've had these debates before. Every big city has its dangerous parts. Normally I would defer to people who live there, but I spent a week in Chicago a couple of years ago. For TM's reference we stayed in a bed and breakfast on Cedar Street, which is between Rush and Lake Shore Drive, two blocks south of Division. We walked everywhere, to Navy Pier, Millenium Park, Art Institute of Chicago, Hancock Building, Daley Plaza, and even hopped on the good old El up to Wrigley Field. Never once had a problem. Never once saw anyone having a problem.

Was I daft? Or just lucky?

The downtown area which has all the theaters, museums, great restaurants, and clubs, and bars is quite safe. There are more police and private security forces that patrol this area because thousands of people live in tall apartment buildings in this area and it is the major tourist draw of the city.

You could always carry a sock filled with quarters and if accosted give them a whack with your sock, as long as a policeman doesn't see it!

Socks will break but a roll of nickels in a clenched fist works very well. Plus it is cheaper.
